Hello,
I'm completely newbie in video editing.
I done some videos with my camera, but I have to rotate them in order to correctly view them on my pc.
The original files are .mov.
If a try to capture, to elaborate with a rotate function, and finally to save (with "share" option),
I have the video in correct way, but the original quality is lost.
What is the file format to use, in order the same quality as the original movie?
Rotate and save without quality loss

Hi
And welcome to the forums
I guess you should have the camera in landscape not portrait when recording video.
I assume the camera is an image camera with video recording capabilities.
Rotating the video I would assume would also reduce the quality, not sure by how much though.
Can you give the video properties details, right click a clip from the timeline and select properties, what are they? You can if you wish create an image of the window and attach to your post.
Knowing the full properties of the video will give uss an idea what to suggest.

You are perfectly right (and I have the same problem with my smartphone video acquisition)...
I know
In attachment you have my video settings for that video, but I'm an Italian user, so the settings are in Italian
language (but they are fully understandable).

Re: Rotate and save without quality loss
Hi
I am guessing the camera is a Canon.
Canon use h264.mov, not fully recognised by Video Studio hence the Compression details are empty/blank.
When you turn the video I think you will end up with a black band on one of the sides.
Mpeg4 video may be the best option, use Share create video File – Custom –Mpeg4—Options button will allow you to set the properties.
From the compression tab choose Video Type H264
Then from the General tab set the other properties.
Sample:-
MPEG-4 Files
24 bits, 640 x 480, 30 fps
Frame-based
H.264 Main Profile Video: 3000 Kbps
44100 Hz, 16 Bit, Stereo
MPEG AAC Audio: 128 Kbps
If you are happy with the results, use Make Movie Templates Manager to create a new template.

Re: Rotate and save without quality loss
The camera is a Canon PowerShot S90.
But I have the same problem with my Smartphone, Samsung Galaxy SIII: any other suggestion about this?
I will try now with your settings.
For now, thank you very nuch for your reply!

Re: Rotate and save without quality loss
I done some attempts, but with bad results,
because the video is not rotate.
I apply the modify -> rotate tool,
but when I save with the setting you show me
(or with mpg4 HD video settings) the rotation is not maintained.
Please, do you have any idea?

Re: Rotate and save without quality loss
Hi saintex
I do not understand why it should loose the rotation, unless you should use Share Create video File Same as Project Settings.
First edit the Project Properties to suitable settings, try the Avi option using Microsoft DV compression?
Otherwise
Are you able to make one of your clips available for sharing, maybe upload to 4Shared or a similar program.
We can then download your sample to test the process of rotating and rendering?

Hi saintex
I had no trouble in turning the video 90 degrees, yes you will have black bars left and right.
Always record your video in letterbox shape, not vertical.
The attached VSP will open in VS 4,5 and 6, after opening link to your video file, then share Create Video File Same as Project Properties. The video is 4:3 ratio
The other video is 16:9 ratio, the green slide, you should add this to a project using widescreen 16:9. it is the correct way up, but will have black bars left and right, again record in widescreen, letterbox shape,
I know its tempting to record this the other way round due to the shape of the slide, but you need widescreen.
