Capture driver mystery

Post by Bomoh »

I have a dual boot pc with XP on one partition so I can run MSP editor and capture...........they work perfectly.
Just downloaded a TBYB VS pro to try on the Win 7 partition so I don't have to keep rebooting.
First problem is that it thinks there is no capture driver although it recognises and will control the camera.
How can this be when Nero, win dvd maker will recognise the camera but VS will not.
Any ideas?

PS what a limited program compared to MSP.................not even moving paths.

How are you trying to capture - USB ?? Firewire ?? drag and drop ?

What camera do you have.

You have not explored all the functions of VideoStudio - X5 has moving paths and X6 has motion tracking :

Capture is via firewire from a Panasonic NV GS400. VS is the only program that this problem exhibits itself on.

Moving paths are very limited compared to MSP7

In order to use firewire to capture with VideoStudio you have to roll back the IEEE1394 driver to the "legacy" driver - having done that I can capture via firewire with no problem at all.

last time I looked MSP was a lot more expensive than VS so would expect more from it.

Thanks for the info. I have looked at the driver issue.
Currently it is installed with a Texas Instruments 1394 OHCI compliant host controller but there is no option to roll back the driver as this option is greyed out on the driver tab. Any further tips?

The main issue with MSP was not its price but the fact that development halted at XP level..............but that is all water under the bridge now.

One other option is to use a free programme called WinDV available here :- http://windv.mourek.cz/

this will import from firewire and you can then insert the files into VideoStudio - some users prefer this route any way.

Thank you for your assistance.
I have downloaded the winDV and it works fine....................but only on the XP partition! On the Win 7 system it recognises it as a panasonic camera but cannot capture.

I had another look at the drivers and managed to install the legacy driver on the Win7 partition but it makes no difference at all...........Win DV and VS cannot capture although both know the camera is there.

The drivers listed on the XP partition are :c\windows\sys32\drivers\1394bus.sys
arp1394.sys
enum1394.sys
nic1394.sys
ohci1394.sys

whereas the Win7 driver shows only c\windows\sys32\drivers\1394ohci.sys

any recommendations?

I'd really like to ditch the XP partition but cannot until I can capture to it.
thanks
