Transfer project from one PC to a new PC

Post by Keith Page »

I am part way through a video project which has been saved and includes video with picture overlays etc. I have now built a new/faster PC and transfered my DVD ROM to this and wish to continue the project. I have tried to open the project on the new PC by transfering the previously saved Ulead document file and video clips over a home network to the new PC (I have placed these in folders/locations corresponding to those on the old PC - unfortunately the project will not open and I get a 'file mismatch' error. I have tried relinking of files but had no luck. Can anyone suggest a way for me to continue the project on my new PC.

Do you have the same version of UVS on both systems? Older versions will not be able to open .VSP project files created with a newer version.

I have transferred projects and assets between my laptop and desktop and been able to open the files successfully, though I had to relink the files when I opened the project because the drive letters between the two systems are different.

I have the same version of UVS on both and all files were and have been saved on the 'C' drive of both PCs. Relinking just fails. Thanks anyway.

Do you still have the old system working? If yes, are the original project files still on it? If yes, there is no problem, use the "Package" feature of your program which will copy all the project assets into one location and updates the locations of the different files used in your project. Transfer that folder to your new system and you will be up and running in no time.

Thanks to heinz-oz - trouble is I can't find the 'Package' feature (even in the help files). If you can point me in the right direction I should be OK. Cheers!

I think he's talking about the Briefcase feature.
