Questions on VS9 upgrade..

Post by DVDTom »

Hello All,

I recently purchased the boxed version of VS9. I am currently running VS7. Does anybody have any tips on removing the VS7 and installing the VS9 to avoid problems? Do I simply "uninstall" VS7 or should something more be done, for example, remove any files manually?

At the same time, I will be adding a PYRO EEE1394 card for firewire connection for my Panasonic camera. This won't affect the Ulead stuff but is there anything I should be aware of that may cause problems?

Just thought I would ask. Thanks in advance for any help!

If you have a boxed version, you don't have to worry about having an old version as proof of upgrade eligibility, you can either remove UVS 7 first and then install UVS 9, or you can keep both versions on your system for awhile and then uninstall UVS 7 later.

I had an issue with removing UVS 8 after installing UVS 9 -- doing this broke the SmartSound feature which is shared between the two versions, but this doesn't apply to UVS 7. Even so, if you have the boxed version, you can use Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> UVS -> Change/Remove -> Repair to fix the problem without having to uninstall and then reinstall from scratch.

Thanks THoff,

I wasn't worried about upgrade proof as much as old Ulead files that may create problems with the new version. I got the boxed VS9 from Ulead about a week ago but had a couple of projects to finish before I made the switch.

Thanks again for your knowledge!

I agree with Torsten that you only need do a simple uninstall of VS 7, though that is not strictly necessary.

Nor should there be any special things you need to look out for in installing the Firewire card -- or none that I can think of. I recently install an extra Firewire card, and it just slotted in and was recognised with no problem when I plugged my digital vidcam into it.
