I'm having a problem importing (using the batch "Download" function) my pictures from Lightroom. I want to import a lot of DNG files, keeping their metadata, most importantly titles and tags.
The technical metadata looks fine, but my added metadata is not carried over. I have tried writing sidecar xmp files with exiftool, but have had no luck with that either. Any other suggestions? It's not a huge collection, but it affects more than a thousand files, so not having to do it manually would be nice.
Need advice on migrating DNGs from Lightroom with metadata

Re: Need advice on migrating DNGs from Lightroom with metada
Hi,
ASP can`t use Adobes DNG Files. ASP can only use the original DNG Files out of the Cams. If you convert the RAWs there is no chance.

That's not the issue, ASP reads the DNG files fine. They aren't from Lightroom, though, but were DNG out of the camera. Anyway, the emphasis here should be on the metadata bit.
That's beside the point, though, what I want to know is how to get AfterShot to read my tags. As I said it did not pick up the metadata from my generated sidecar files. Is AfterShot supposed to pick up on sidecar files, but there is something wrong with the metadata from Lightroom? In that case it would be simple enough to make a script that puts my tags in proper sidecar files.

Well, how about taking one image and saving the sidecar, then add the same metadata in AS and comparing the generated XMP with the one from LR?
You did tell LR to generate XMPs did you? Or did you only create them manually with exiftool?
cheers

Re: Need advice on migrating DNGs from Lightroom with metada
Do you know of some way to actually force Lightroom to write sidecar files even when it can do it in-file? Since I couldn't find a way to do that I tried generating separate xmp files with exiftool, and those were the ones I don't know how to get AS to pick up.
The exiftool-generated xmp files do contain the tags from Lightroom, but I suppose they could keep the same problem as Lightroom has with its way of writing metadata.

It is an option in the catalog settings (not the general preferences).
