No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi All.
In VS Pro 4, in edit mode, I get no sound when I play the project but sound is OK when I play the clip. Then if I switch on the sound mixer I get sound when I play the project. Can anyone please suggest what I'm doing wrong.
Thank you All.

Hi
There is an issue regarding audio playback.
When---If you have selected the FX library to add a filter and the FX is still selected
Click the top icon to switch to the library view, then try playing, do the clips play ok.
Switching to Audio View would do the same, play ok

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Thanks for your reply Trevor. I haven't even got that far, all I've done is put the clips on the timeline and when I play it with project selected there is no sound. If I turn on Sound Mixer then I get sound but as soon as I turn it off I lose it. If I select clip then I get sound. In the library I have the source folder for the clips selected.
Worst thing is due to a stroke a few years ago I forgot a lot of things I knew about a lot of things, one being Video Studio. I'd just upgraded to VS Pro4 and so the changes didn't help much. Maybe I'll just have to keep the sound mixer on.
Thanks again and kind regards,
Mike.

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi Mike
In that case can you give us the properties of the video file.?
From the timeline right click a clip and select properties, what are they?
You could use the keyboard Alt + PrtSc, will copy the windows details to your clipboard, use an image editor to create a Jpeg and attach to your post,
Otherwise just type in the details.
I would suspect it is the type of video file that is not being read correctly by VS, there are of course many different types, video Studio does cover many of them.
Maybe you could upload a sample so we can test it ourselves, some use 4Shared but there are others.

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Thanks again Trevor. I tried to copy and paste the screen but it didn't work. I couldn't work out how to get it into Corel PaintShop Pro. So I'll type them in.

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi Mike
First your files look bog standard Pal DVD Mpeg2.
I don’t really understand why you are having any problems.
Can you go to F6 (Preferences) tick Show Messages when Inserting First clip.
Start a new project, then insert a video clip, a pop-up panel should open, choose ok to set the project properties to match the video file.
Does that make any difference?
Paint Shop Pro
After Alt+Prt Screen, saves the details to the clipboard.
Right click PSP preview screen and select Paste as New Image.
Or
From the Menu-Edit – Paste as New Image

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi Trevor.
I tried it and it made no difference at all. I'm starting to think I may have to do a reinstall and see if that helps.
Kind regards,
Mike.

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi Mike
That was to be my next suggestion, but first have you installed all patches.
You should be able to download from here
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=1100002
I also notice you are running Windows 8, not sure if X4 is fully compatible, I would have thought yes but it does not show in their compatibility list.

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi again Trevor.
I've installed SP1 and SP2 and I don't know of any others. Just to confirm my version number is 14.2.0.23 (Ultimate)
Kind regards,
Mike

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Also Trevor, if I have to reinstall would I do it over the existing one or would I uninstall the current one first? If so does it leave all the different library, like sound effects alone?
Thanks again,
Mike

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi again Trevor.
Well I suddenly got some inspiration. Ever since I typed up the properties something about the Dolby 5.1 sound has niggled me. So I just went into the tools menu and enabled Dolby 5.1 and I now have sound when playing the project.
Thank you so much for your patience and help.
Kind regards,
Mike

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi Mike
Nice to hear you sorted the problem, I hadn’t thought of Digital Dolby 5.1, something to remember for the future.
Re-Installing video studio, you have to uninstall first.
If you try to install first the program will prompt you to uninstall.
Your library structure may well disappear so best to export to make a copy.
Other software Bonus plugins Pro Dad etc will need re-installing.
Boris Graffiti may need uninstalling and re-install.
But now you do not have that to do.
Again thanks for the feedback
Enjoy

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Thanks Trevor, if I could just ask one more question. Given my obvious lack of knowledge regarding VSP, is there any benefit for me to upgrade to the latest version?
Kind regards,
Mike.

Re: No sound in edit mode when playing project?
Hi Mike
Whether you update or not really depends on what you are intending to make and indeed how much use you will get out of the program.
Improvements in video technology has aimed at HD type video and Bluray. Video Studio has improved in this direction, still many problems as the forum users will confirm
But if you are working with Standard Definition video as your sample posted here, then not much has changed if anything since X4.
------------
You have to consider that X4 may not be fully compatible with Windows 7, but if its working then it does not need mending.
-------------
If you do not upgrade to X6, but wait till the next version, X4 will not qualify for upgrade to X7, you will have to purchase the full version.
------------
So is there any benefit to upgrade………..it is possible that what you have is suitable for you
Mike I would download the trial version of X6 and give it a run.
