No new patch for VS X5 Pro?

Post by Old_Friend »

No new patch(s) for VS X5 Pro to fix many of the bugs users reported?
I guess the long and hopeful waiting I've done was all in vain. Corel rudely bypassed existing users of VS X5.

EDITED MAR 5, 2012 at 12 Noon (pacific time): The following info is what Corel has posted on its patches and updates for older versions, on its website.
Corel Video Studio Pro X5
Service Pack 1
Released:
2012-06-04

Instead, out of greed, they released a new version "X6" and are charging an Upgrade price to it equal to the full amount I paid for X5! And, there is no doubt in my mind that the new X6 version will contain tons of bugs that will NEVER get fixed during its lifespan, either. What a slap in users faces to do such a thing. I think it's a pitiful way to treat customers.

"ca change"? I guess you are referring to California's high tax rate added to the cost. If so, I never even considered that. heh heh.

Last year I upgraded to VS X5 and found it to be a lot slower than X4 and often stopped rendering for no reason. I have now unistalled it and reinstalled my X4 version and am rendering all my videos again without problem. The X5 upgrade was just a waste of money and I shall not be sucked in to upgrading again!

lata, thanks for replying, but I don't understand what you mean. HA HA

I thought he was referring to California State Taxes on the product, ref: the word "change," as in extra pocket change (coins). But, in California that would be dollars instead of coins! grin.

In any event, I will not waste any more money on Corel VS products. To me, it's criminal what they do! They should be ashamed and embarrassed at their greedy attempts at profiting without offering any support. Any new version they try to push onto the market will be just another headache for users -- and, at double-cost to users!

Note: I'm not referring to the great support received here in this forum. You guys are Administrators of the Corel Product Forum, but from what I've read, you don't work for Corel. I still don't understand what that's all about? They pay for the forum, but you work for free? If that's the actual case, then that shows even more how greedy and lame they are.

I'm referring to the fact that a company as large (and rich) as Corel won't support this product themselves via the developers who created the bugs in the 1st place! Charging me the same price again for an upgrade without fixing issues or improving the version I bought, shows that Corel does not care in the least for its customers! Pure greed and laziness.

The pay for the forum only in the sense that they provide space on their servers for it, and I guess also that part of the salary of their employees who actually service the servers in Taiwan that cover this Board.

But yes, neither Trevor (lata), BrianCee nor me receive any money from Corel. As we have said (repeatedly), we are volunteer users just like you. We just happen to have been using Corel products -- in fact before they were ever taken over by Corel -- for many years. So we have accumulated a little expertise which we make available to try to help out other users with problems that we may have ourselves encountered in the past or at least learned about from other users. Our reward, such as it is, is to successfully resolve problems -- though of course some are intractable and cannot be resolved by any user, no matter how experienced. (I won't go into the question of Corel's new policy of charging for technical assistance, which personally I find appalling...)

We also try to use what small leverage we have to draw problems to Corel's attention -- though usually with no visible result. The limits on our leverage is well illustrated by the fact that we can't even get Corel to upgrade the phpBB software that runs this Board. We have been trying for literally years -- and of course I am not even talking here about the Corel software we all use...

As far as I am aware, Abiel and Simone (UK) are the only Corel employees who ever appear(ed) on the Board. But even Abiel has now left Corel's employ, and Simone made it clear from the start that her very occasional appearances were in her private capacity, and limited IIRC to questions from users in the UK...

Ken, you explained everything extensively and quite well, indeed! You reiterated my points. As much as I love to create things without commercial aspects in mind, I find VS X5 Pro basically adequate, even with the various oversights and limitations of it. At least, I can make simplistic videos. I fail to understand why Corel (which used to have such a good 'name' in the business) has fallen to such a low level of quality assurance, customer support, and integrity. It reminds me of the company Atari, who had the technologically-best machines at the time, yet the only reason they failed as a company was because of a poorly-run Marketing Department. Their products were superior to any competion, but Atari dropped the ball. Corel has done the same. Oh, well. I guess I'm done with this topic. One last thought... I did notice that X6 has a new feature to 'track' objects. I wish X5 had the same. But, for me, it's not worth the outrageous cost increase to get it.

Thanks Ken for your reply!
