I put your message into Google and it appears this message has appeared for various errors going back to PSP8.
You might like to try a more thorough search if no one here comes up with a solution.

The same exact thing happened to me on the 3rd of May with X5! And I have no solution - was googling and found your question.

The other two versions work fine

Using Win7/32bit
X5, X4. X3

That did NOT work for me - even rebooted the computer. Still getting the error message

And - I can't unistall it via the control panel because it keeps telling me that X5 is running in the background.

At least I have X3 and X4 working - however it's a pain because some psp tubes want to open in 5 - so then I get all hung up again.

Using Win7/32bit

Hit Ctrl + Shift + Esc to bring up the Task Manager. Click on the Processes tab. Look for any instances of PSP running in the background. Select them and hit "End Process" that should allow you to uninstall PSPX5 if it's truly running.

As for getting tubes to open in earlier versions of PSP. You can change that pretty easily.

Right-click on a picture tube and select "Open With." Then select "Choose Default Program" If PSPX4 is not listed in the dialog that pops up you can do a search for it. Make sure the "Use this for all" checkbox is selected at the bottom. This will make sure that PSPX4 is the new default for picture tube files.

You can also do this from the Default Programs Control panel. Just open your start menu and type "Default Programs" in the dialog you can select either to associate a file type or to choose a default program. The difference here is the starting point. File type will let you choose a program based on its file extension, default program lets you select from a list of file types a program identifies itself as being able to open.

After I rebooted I was able to uninstall X5.
And I had tried the task manager but X5 kept popping back on again somehow in the background even tho , of course, it wasn't running.

Thanks for your input. I appreciate responses so much.
