Re: VideoStudio Pro - Wishlist for Version X7
In addition to an, oft requested, 64-bit (architecture) version, I'd like to see an option to edit in YUV 4:2:2 colorspace, 8-bit YUY2 at least, and ideally 10-bit also for 'professional' level video.....as per the 'Pro' in VideoStudio Pro.
Nostalgia is not what it used to be

I hope we can put any frame size when trimming a mp4 video filein other words we can use user-defined size

Re: VideoStudio Pro - Wishlist for Version X7
I, too, think a true 64-bit version that takes advantage of everything this architecture offers is due.
At the beginning of this thread, it was argued in defense of the 32-bit version that "most people still use XP". XP is going to "die" at the beginning of April, and I think 64-bit Win 7 (or 8, or 9!) will be the direction a lot of people will take. Finding programs and drivers is no longer a problem.
A feature I would very much like to see is batch editing of individual files. For example, I have five short (10 min. each) mpg vids that I want to convert individually to mp4 (i.e. in the end I want five separate videos).
All of them are a bit dark (the degree of darkness is the same for all), and I'd like to brighten all of them by the same degree while they're being converted.
I know how to do this for vids one at a time, but there appears to be no way to do several simultaneously. The important thing is that they shouldn't be joined.
By the way, there's a free program called Video to Video that does this, but the interface is a bit primitive and it's much less powerful overall than VS. And just for the record, I have no connection whatsoever with the other program; I'm just a user.

Wishlist for Version X7 CROPPING GARBAGE MATT
Garbage Matt Cropping. I have only just bought Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X6 so perhaps it's just me not used to it as yet BUT. .
Having been used to Premiere Elements that has Garbage Matt so you can CROP in any shape or any part of the screen to remove unwanted items that are showing in video.
All I have been able to do is CROP BORDERS which only concentrates on Middle of the frame. The CROPPING function always ends up zooming out when played back.
What am I doing WRONG or is this what it is supposed to do?
Version 7 NEEDS a Garbage Matt

Re: VideoStudio Pro - Wishlist for Version X7
The problem may just be in the different terminology - in VideoStudio to crop a frame means to remove everything except just the bit you want to keep and then filling the screen with what's left. If you just want a small part of the image still showing in a full screen then in VideoStudio we would either use Picture-in picture - or masking - see this topic :- http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=52545

Hi Brian! Thank you for your reply. When I use the Cropping tool, when playing back it zooms out, is it supposed to do that?BrianCee wrote:The problem may just be in the different terminology - in VideoStudio to crop a frame means to remove everything except just the bit you want to keep and then filling the screen with what's left. The Vignette is similar to Border cropping in that as you pull in to remove side it is also coming down to cut off the persons head.
I have been unable to find Masking.
The Picture in Picture is same cropping effect as borders in that it pulls all sides in to centre and as with Vignette pulling side in also pulls top down and removes what you want to keep.

Re: VideoStudio Pro - Wishlist for Version X7
OK I've watched your video on youtube - for the benefit of others it's here :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA5X4xZP28A
I see what you are trying to do and in Videostudio it looks to me like all that is needed is a straightforward crop - BUT - if I understand what you are saying then your problem is that you have not customised the cropping filter.
in VideoStudio after you have dragged the cropping filter down onto your main image in overlay track 1 double click on the block in the timeline this will open the "Options" panel where you will see the option to Customise filter - click on that - what you are then seeing is a "timeline" of your clip with 'keyframes' at the start and end, by default the end keyframe is set to 100% - (which is why your crop 'zooms out' as you play) - set the first keyframe to the width you want with presumably full height - now set the last keyframe to exactly the same
Now also Un-check "fill colour" - and check "stationary" - click OK and you should have what you require

Hi Brian! Thank's for the detailed instruction, works well. Although it does still centre, it is usable. Thank you for your help.BrianCee wrote:OK I've watched your video on youtube - for the benefit of others it's here :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DA5X4xZP28A

You can move the cropped area to anywhere at all on screen - left click and hold on the cross in the centre of the dotted area and slide the block to where ever you want it - and as long as you uncheck the "stationary" box it can be in different places at each keyframe - so it can effectively move during playback. add any number of keyframes to obtain quite complicated cropping options

Re: VideoStudio Pro - Wishlist for Version X7
Another wish of mine is smart relinking.
I recently moved and renamed two source video files. Let's call them A and B. And let's say that an existing VSP refers to A and B. After my move and rename, A is now called C and B is now called D.
My vsp has 30 clips from A and 30 from B.
I opened the vsp file and get the colllingwood stripes (sorry for non victorians - black and white) and a relink message.
I tell the relinker that A is now C and the first 30 clips magically get changed to point to C. Brilliant!!!!!!!!!
Now I click on the 31st clip and tell it to point to D, and it does, but unlike the A to C conversion, it only does one clip. So I have to go through the other 29 clips one by one and relink.
This is very lazy programming on corels part. Let me put it in pseudo code for future version:
Relink clip saying B to D
Check every other clip - If they are also B then convert them to D! SImple!
What was worse is that the developers didnt follow LOL (last open location).
For each clip that referred to B it opened up a folder browser that displayed the PARENT folder and I had to click on that to point to D, Rather than LOL which would have opened the parent folder directly allowing me to click on D.
As an IT developer I suspect this would take someone about 20 mins coding to fix - cause they got A to C done right!!!!!
Cheers
David

It would be very fine, if Corel would provide promised features. HW acceleration (via modern graphic card) for encoding is in many cases MISSING. See other topic http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 70#p283870.
I hope HW acceleration for encoding process is in February 2014 expected feature.

After relinking A to C save the project, now open the project again to force VS to auto relink, the B to D should now relink as A to C.
Changing the individual file names may not re-link correctly, and I am surprised that A to C actually worked, I will give that a run?
Changing the folder location or re-naming the folder should relink all
Post updated
As a test.....
I changed the individual file/clip names and I had to re-link each clip in turn, I would expect this.
If I change the location or name of the folder then all clips will be re-linked
Re: VideoStudio Pro - Wishlist for Version X7
Not sure if anyone mentioned this but I wish VideoStudio Pro did "Frame Interpolation". Yes you can slow down footage but too much and it starts to get choppy. Frame Interpolation will allow a smoother slow motion effect.
