Does VS9 extract images/sound from MPEG2 files in a project?

Post by RonCrawford »

Hi,

I've added a few large MPEG2 files to my project and I've created a video using portions of audio and video segments from the MPEG2 files. When I go to create a DVD, it tells me that my file size exceeds the DVD size even though the video is upwards of 1:40 minutes. It appears that VS9 is using the MPEG2 files in their entirety opposed to using only the sections I specified when I trimmed and clipped from the original MPEG2 files.

Is there anyway around this?

thanks,
Ron

I don't think we will be able to help without some further information. Most particularly, we need to know what the properties of your captured video are, and also the properties of the DVD you are trying to burn. In particular, we need to know the bit rate you are using. An idea of you computer specifications and operating system would also help, including size of hard discs and free space on them.

Thanks for your attention to my post.

To make this as simple as possible, I have an MPEG2 file that was created using 3rd party capturing software. I captured a video from a hi8 tape to the computer. The captured file size is roughly 2 gigs.

I then used the multi-trim feature from VS9 and split the audio as well. I'm using the audio to do voice overs on the final video.

Although I split the video up and the audio as well, it appears that VS9 is using the original video file in its entirety when I attempt to create a DVD. Once again, I'm merely using this captured video file to extract audio portions for voice overs.

If VS9 is indeed using the original video file and attempting to store that entire file to the DVD, is there anyway to get around this issue? I thought that it would use the original video file as a "library" more or less to extract the audio from when I'm in a project. However, I thought that it would be smart enough to extract just the sections from the MPEG2 file I used in the project when creating the DVD.

Does anyone have any answers for me? I'm more or less concerned because VS9 tells me that my filesize for the DVD is greater than 4.7 gigs and offers me the "fit & burn" option. I'm running a test now to see how the video will look when using "fit & burn" but I'm crossing my fingers as VS9 crashes on me when I attempt to burn a DVD :-)

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hi
You still haven’t given us much to go on,
I am a little confused as to the process you are using.
but reading between the lines,
are you trying to burn a Dvd from the project timeline or have you created a video file of your project.

How long is your project? (click the word ‘Project’ next to the play button—now click the third button from the right—look at the digital timer)

Once you have completed all the editing and you are satisfied with the project.
Go to Share and Create a Video File.
Use the new file to burn a Dvd. (Share / Create Disc / Add Video)

Read the posting at the top of this forum,
check out the various tutorials.

Yeah, sounds to me like Ron is trying to burn without creating a final, new video file that contains JUST what must go onto the DVD.

I don't believe you can choose this and that and then tell UVS to put that and only that into the DVD file. Or if you can, you shouldn't.
