stopped recognizing camera, photograph name change

Post by Kinz »

I'm having strange things go on with Paint Shop Pro. One, it stopped automatically recognizing the camera when I plug it in to upload new photos. Now I have to tell it to open the camera, and, even if I have 100 old photos and 25 new ones, it uploads all of them again! Second, the file names have changed for the photos. They've always been the date "20132713_*.jpg". Now it opens them as "001.jpg, or 002.jpg, etc. How can I get it to go back to opening with the date as the file name.....and recognizing the camera and automatically open new photos in the camera? This is very frustrating. Thanks for any help.

It would help to know what version of PSP you're using and how it used to work. I didn't even know you could have PSP auto download from a camera much less change the file names.

I think what Kinz is using is the Corel photo Downloader. Do google search on that and you will find lots of info. I remember seeing that at one time as it interrupted my normal procedure and so I disabled it.
I download from my cards using a card reader and it behaves normally as an extra external drive and using normal windows folders it can download images while I use my camera elswhere or work on PSP processing independently.
As well I hate a lot of this automatic stuff as it can so often go wrong.
It sounds as if that program or part of has become corrupted.
Not sure if you can correct just the Photo downloader part without a reinstall. But no loss anyway.
Edit : further research has shown that it was dropped from X4 on and is shown in the General Program Preferences on X3 where you can tick or untick a box to get Photodownloader operating when your computer starts up,
Systems available Win7, Win 8.1,Win 10 Version 1607 Build 14393.2007 & version 20H2 Build 19042.867

Ok, so here are two specific things that happen...and it's never done this for the years I've been using Paint Shop Pro (x2 or x4). The software does not activate automatically when I plug the camera into the computer. This morning I was at least able to change a setting to recognize the camera. But, now I plug the camera in and it calls it removable storage with sub folders DCIM and 101ND300 (my camera is a Nikon D300). And in "application used for photos", it doesn't list the Paint Shop software - every other kind of photo software and brand that I use, but not Corel. I can open it under Paint Shop, but will all these sub folders.
