Upgrading bonus content between versions?
I have a quick question. As I upgrade to new versions of VS, I like to carry over the content, samples and other special effects for creating menus in the authoring stage from previous versions. Under the corel VS folder, I see the samples and content folder. The new versions however have additional folders that I am not familiar with such as EditingStyle, zh-HK etc. I currently have VS Pro X4 and have not figured out how and where to place the other versions dating from vs11 forward. In addition to the new capabilities of the newer versions, I want to have a large variety of editing effects and content as well. I have the other versions such as pro x2 and prox3 installed as well and I did install the bonus content for those versions. I just don't know exactly where it placed the content. The content I am referring to are the get_more_style.exe files. Thanks for your help in advance, and sorry if my question is confusing.

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
Hi dhpriest
And welcome to the forums.
Not exactly sure which files you seem to be missing.
Installing X4 populates the program with most if not all files used in earlier versions.
How many clips do you see in the Video Library?
Some installation files are in two parts, the Main Program and a Contents file.
Others in one large file.
The Contents.exe file that may have been provided completes the installation by adding library content, instant projects and DVD Menu files.
There is also a download MenuPack available from the Do-More which significantly increases the DVD Menu Gallery.
Can you be more specific in what you are wanting to use, if its user created then you should be able to move them, other files yes it may be possible, but as I say X4 is quite well populated……..
There may be two types of extra files the “Bonus” file and the “Content” files, the latter being used to complete the installation.
The Bonus contains any free software that Corel may provide.
Just to confuse things the Bonus folder may contain files called VSX4_Style01 and VSX4_Style02. I do not think all purchases provided these files.???

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
The VS X4 program that I have is 830MB, along with a few extras that said get more title. After I installed the get_more_title, there was still very few extras. Under the create disc phase, there were only 4 menu style choices. The samples folder in the program folder was only 45mb and the content and EditingStyle folders were very small in size compared to previous versions. For example, VS X2 had over 20 choices of menu choices for authoring a DVD. There were many more video, still and audio samples and the samples, content and EditingStyle folders were significantly larger where the samples folder alone was over 400mb. VS X3 had a program size of 1.2GB not including the bonus content pack, and again, there were a lot more samples. I cannot speak for the menu choices because of the DVD Movie Factory hassle. The truth is, I had both VS2 and VS3 installed on my computer. I used VS3 to do all the editing and rendering and VS2 to create the menu and burn to a disc. I now have VS X4, but am wondering why I am getting jipped with the bonus material.

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
have you installed the bonus pack for X4 - if you have the disk version load in the second disc - if you have the download version have you downloaded and installed the bonus pack.
but basically if you want to move items up a level just copy them from their folder in the previous version to the same folder in the latest version. It does not matter if there are some extra folders in the latest versions - the basic folders are still there.

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
Hi
The main installation program of 830 Mb will be the cut down version, maybe used for TBYB thus reducing download times, an extra file is provided to complete the installation.
This is called "VSX4_Content.exe" and is approx 470Mb, as mentioned earlier this installs additional contents to the program to complete the installation.
Corel do however for some purchases provide a full installation file at 1.4 Gb which fully installs in one go.

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
I do have the TBYB version, but when I registered, I did not get the full content pack of 470mb...strange. I know what you are talking about because I have it with VS2 & 3. I did download a content file, but not nearly to the extent that you are describing here. At this point, because VS5 is out, what do you recommend?

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
At this point Amazon UK are taking orders for X6 promising it on the 8th March.
I could not find it on the Amazon.com site though.
maybe wait a week or so and jump to X6

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
My concern is that I have an older system. Windows XP, Pentium4 3.4ghz processor with 2.5gb RAM. My understanding is that versions newer than X4 require newer, faster processors with more ram. I saw that there was the "Get_more" links posted for VS X3 posted. Are there any links that are available for X4 bonus content?

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
Hi
So if you did download a Contents file, have you installed it?
You may also be given a Bonus file, this usually contains additional clips, and maybe any free software being offered.
But it’s the Content file you should install to complete the tbyb installation.
Otherwise
As you have X3 installed the Smart Sounds should work, I do not know if X4 provided an additional smart sound library?
Instant Projects will be lacking.
DVD Menu may be limited, however there is a Menu pack via Do More options.
The general library could be imported from X3
Not sure about the FX filters, they may be limited
Basically you are running half a program.
But the option to upgrade from X4 is there and as Brian says X6 appears to be imminent. X4 would qualify for the upgrade version.

I understand I can upgrade to X6. My concern again is how will it perform with my given system?

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
I could import the library from x3, but how would I do that? I currently uninstalled x3, but I can install it again. I prefer not to have more than one version of VS installed at the same time because it makes my system sluggish.

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
Hi
Sorry for the delay in replying, the forum seems very slow this afternoon????
You would have to install X3 or X2 to install the files.
You can easily copy the Video Images and Audio to import to X4 library, it’s the other content that may be a problem. Even so I do not use the sample images etc.
I do not know exactly what you are missing, if its Smart Sound, Filters etc.
But if you intend to copy the files across then you need the program installing, I would use X2.

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
Thanks. Any thoughts about x6 performing on my system? X4 performs fine, but I do not know if X6 or X5 for that matter is more of a system hog.

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
Hi
I would assume the program would run ok, it’s some of the HD type video that may be troublesome?
Your best option is to download the trial versions, if you download X5 you can run that now, as far as I know will install as a full version and provide the missing library files for X4.
The trial runs for 30 days, by then maybe the X6 will be available, and the possibility of another 30 days trial.
Then you have to decide on the Pro or Ultimate version?

Re: Upgrading bonus content between versions?
Are the additional programs/content with Ultimate worth it? I understand they are stand alone software bundled with VS, right?
