Aftershot Pro 1.1 will not start
Running Win 7, AMD Phenom II 1045T processor, nvidia Quadro 2000 graphics card, 8 GB RAM.
All previous versions ran on the same machine with no trouble.
All references I've found on this forum to anything similar to this problem have to do with Linux. Does Windows 7 have similar trouble with the latest version and does this have anything to do with Open CL. I've tried running as adminstrator - makes no difference.
Any suggestions are welcome.

Re: Aftershot Pro 1.1 will not start
Will not start does not provide much diagnostic info....
Do you ever see the splash screen or not?
Anything in the Windows event log?
Anything in the AfterShot log?
If it is OpenCL related, making sure you have the latest Nvidia drivers (from Nvidia, not via Windows update) could help.
cheers

Re: Aftershot Pro 1.1 will not start
First, thanks for the prompt response, and sorry for the late counter-response.
Second, you're right - the message was not diagnostic, in hopes that my symptoms would prompt something simple, like "oh, yeah, the Quadro 2000D problem . . ."
So, in response, here's some basics.
1) Just loaded the latest driver direct from Nvidia for the Quadro 2000D (9.18.13.1115), re-installed Aftershot Pro, and attempted to start
2) Yes, I did see the splash screen. Less than 2 seconds in, during the "initializing . . ." stage, I got the "Aftershot Pro has stopped working" message, followed by Microsoft's announcement that it's shutting the program down and will notify me if it finds a solution.
3) In the app data/Corel/Aftershot Pro folder, the log.txt file, opens as follows:
"AfterShotPro caused an Access Violation (0xc0000005)
in module aticfx32.dll at 0023:6d7957f1.

Re: Aftershot Pro 1.1 will not start
OK, clearly OpenCL.
The interesting question is, where dos AS in Windows check for the OpenCL activation
.. That would be the spot to disable it.
Of course, checking for newer graphics drivers might also be useful.

I'd think it's something accessible from the Nvidia control panel, but maybe it's buried in an initialization file somehwere. Oh, well, no time like the present to go exploring . . .
Thanks for your input.

I suspect I have the same problem and possibly the same as identified in this thread: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=48862.
Basically the program starts initialising and then Windows says it has a problem. Debug.txt contains:
3970.91: Heaps: 7
3970.120: Bibble program arguments ("D:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel AfterShot Pro\build\AfterShotPro.exe")

I'm guessing it doesn't like my video card which is a bit over 3 years old. The previous version of ASP worked fine. I've found a bunch of info on OpenCL on NVidia's website but I have a couple of questions:
Is it necessary to have an OpenCL compliant video card for ASP 1.1.0.30?
And, is there a quick and easy way to find out if my video card is compliant?
I'm half looking for an excuse to upgrade my computer but upgrading it just for ASP isn't much of an excuse.
TIA
Paul

Re: Aftershot Pro 1.1 will not start
OpenCL is not required.
But when AS detects it, it will try to use it.
So in your case where this breaks, you need to find the AS setting in the config (probably registry) that tells AS to use OpenCL and toggle it off.
I'll get a FirePro card this week, maybe I get around to look for the setting then.
Interesting registry entries to search for would be:
PreferredPlatform and CLUtilization.
If you find them, there should be also an Enabled flag nearby that you could toggle to false.
(got this out of the Linux config which uses plain files under ~/.config/Corel)
cheers

In Windows 7, look in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Corel\AfterShot Pro\Preferences\OpenCL using Regedit (just type "Regedit" in the search bar of the start menu & hit enter or use your favourite alternative registry editor).afx wrote:OpenCL is not required.

In my registry there is no entry for OpenCL in Preferences. I do have the same problem as dburton but my video card is an ATI Radeon 4800 series. I just downloaded and installed the latest drivers but it made no difference.RickHeath wrote:...

Rick.
After some reading I gather OpenCL is an "open" graphics API set. And, FWIW, my driver supports OpenCL 10.0.937.2.
Maybe I'll uninstall ASP again and try re-installing it.
Thanks for the responses.

Re: Aftershot Pro 1.1 will not start
Since I can't get into the program I cannot disable OpenCL. So I've given up and gone back to my earlier version. I did write up my experience in the SurveyMonkey and gave them my crash log files.afx wrote:As expected, as this is user settings control the use of OpenCL.pcas1986 wrote:That didn't work either.

As the update was mostly about OpenCL I guess I'm not missing anything.
Thanks for the help anyway.

That's why I was referring to the Registry settings...pcas1986 wrote:Since I can't get into the program I cannot disable OpenCL.
If they are not there, I think creating them should help.
Of course that requires that we have the complete set.
