Fade in and out to black?

Post by sentinelrv »

Does this program support the ability to start your video with a black screen, and fade in to the movie, and then fade out to black at the end of it? I can only use transitions in between scenes, and not the beginning or end. I am looking, but I can't find these options.

Yes it does. Start your project with a black colour in the video track of the timeline - make it as long as you like. Then Crossfade to the first actual video clip. Do the reverse at the end of the movie.

Yes, the program allows you to put in a black video clip and then transition from the black to the start of the movie with a "cross fade" transition. Then at the end of the movie just add a black video clip and put in a "cross fade" transition, between the black video clip and the end of the movie, so that the movie fades to back.

The other way is to use the "fade to black" transition available to you in vs8.

Hi
To carry on from the previous post - can u fade into a title from the black colour that can be placed at the start of the timeline??

Davey,
Unless I don't understand your question, titles go on top of anything regardless of what's on the timeline.

Davey--

When I do this, I start with a black "color" chosen from that category in the dropdown Library. I make the initial black last 3 seconds. I insert a second "color" (blue this time) from the Library, and set duration at 5 seconds. Between those two colors I insert a Transition > F/X fade-out/fade-in.

I position the cursor over my blue, and click "Title" and double-click on the Preview Window and type in my title. Click outside the square, position the title with the mouse, and final click to set. Then adjust the duration of this title to 4secs15frames.

Finally, add another F/X fade-out transition to lead into the movie proper.

Go to the Library panel on the right.

Select the 'Color' page.

Drag any color to the video timeline.

Adjust the length of the clip, top left panel, 'duration'

Preset the default duration from File / Preferences / Edit Tab

Hope this Helps

NOT a black video clip but a plain black color block from the "COLOR" library - just drag and drop it in the timeline same as everything else.
