X5 Not Rendering

Post by Shaan »

Hiya,

Hunted thru the board as well as Google....but seems I am the only one facing this issue.

Created a project with VS X5. Total of 20 clips. Added some of the transititions and titles. In the Create DVD.. I stuck to the SmartScene templates and even removed all chapters.

But does not matter what I do....it will not render. :(

The total progress bar is stuck at 3% (Convert Title info above the progress bar) and Detailed PRogress is stuck at 4% (Name of Project above the progress bar)

I have let it run for 16 hours straight but does not budge beyond this.

Please help!!!

Thankz

Instead of going to Share > Create Disc > DVD, try Share > Create Video File > DVD. That way you will get a DVD-compatible mpeg-2 which you can later burn to an actual DVD. But first it will allow you to see if it is in fact possible to convert your project to something that will burn to a DVD. And if not, it might make it easier to identify what the problem might be.

TQ Ken....but no-go unfortunately.

Tried Share > Video File > Mpeg2 as well as DVD 4:3 and DVD 16:9. Goes to the same 4% and stuck.

Hi Shaan

It does seem to indicate the contents of the timeline may be causing the problem, perhaps a corrupt file?
You should be able to render to DVD without problems.
If your project is widescreen then you should use the 16:9 option.

Can you tell us exactly what you have in the timeline at the point that the render stops.
Also say if you have applied any filters, speed controls etc.
This applies to all timelines, audio included.

Try removing the clip at that point, if required replace with another clip.

TQ lata for your suggesstions. Will try them out in a few.

MY video is very basic.

Timeline Video: Starts with one of the provided clips. HM_General 17_Start.wmv. Followed by Crossfade. Then 7 jpeg images. (Used one of the templates provided). This is followed by small clips in .MP4 format with transitions between each clip.

Timeline Title: Starts with a brief title. There are a few titles thrown in for some of the clips.

Timeline Audio: Starts with the provided HM_General 17_music.mpa. Followed by a mp3 with a 3 second gap. Then only for end credits another mp3 audio clip inserted.

No other changes. Except for transitions....no filters or speed changes applied.

Am lost.

Thankz for all the help provided. Appreciate.

The reference to 7 jpegs in a template suggests that you may have used one of the instant projects Shaan - could be a problem with that - which one did you use Beginning/Middle/End/Complete T## ???????

If you let us know I'll run a test on my PC - it could be that causing the problem.

TQ Brian.

Ok...I took iata's suggestions....and started testing each clip.

The start and the middle templates are fine. The fades were fine. Then the very 1st clip gave a problem at the end of the render. So I tested with another clip and it rendered fine.

But here is the weird part....every 2nd clip is a problem now. And the 2nd clip has audio problems too. Yet in the preview mode or VLC or in Magix....everything works fine.

Looks like if I want to use the VS X5 then I will have to convert each and every clip 1st into some other format or else switch completely to Magix. I like VS X5 for the templates. They help a n00b like me.

Stumped.

Hi
Sorry for the delay in our reply, the forum has been off the air for some time…..

I assume you have used one of the Instant Project as an intro to your project.

Can you create the Instant project again in a new VSP/project.
Save the VSP and Zip, attach to your post.
We should be able to open your project provided you use samples from the library.

Otherwise tell us which instant project you used

I located the clip HM_General 17_Start.wmv, this is used with Instant Project T08, however this project only contains 3 clips, I doubt if these are giving a problem.

Please right click one of the problem clips, select properties, what are they?

Sorry for the late response.

Ok...I think I did not clarify well in my last post.

1. None of the built-templates or fades are a problem. Checked them.
2. Problem lies with my video clips it seems. They are in .mp4 format. So, some compile/render fine while others will just end up freezing VS with no error msgs or anything. Yet my clips play fine in any other program. (Besides the point). Am in the process of converting all my clips to .avi and will rebuild with a new project. Will revert back with my status on that.

On a side issue....
For some reason now, I am unable to edit the text in the Instant Project templates. For eg: The text "Videostudio" in 08_HM_General 17.wvs. I went thru the help file but nothing regarding that. Previously, the text "VideoStudio" came automatically in the Text Line in the Timeline view. Now it doesn't.

Please excuse all the n00b queries as I am still in my learning curve.

Thanks for all the help extended. Appreciate.

Hi

Once you have converted the video Mp4 to another format.
Add them to the library.
Open your old project, you can now replace the existing clips (mp4)
Drag the converted clip from the library, press Ctrl key whilst dragging, drop over the clip in the timeline, should Replace Clip. This will retain your edits.
Otherwise you will have to re-edit.
Also -- Right click a clip in the timeline will also give the replace clip option allowing you to browse the hard drive.

The title created with Instant projects should show in the timeline, you are working in Timeline view and not Storyboard View?????

TQ Trevor.

Ok...slowly solving the issues.

1. The template editing. Got that right now. Drag and drop in timeline view. Sigh....that was simple. :)

2. The .avi clips are rendering fine now. Tested with templates + 2 .avi clips. Mpeg2 output. No hiccup in the rendering.

BUT............... :( (Yep...there is always a "but" )

a: The rendered clips have now 2 mirror image bars on top/bottom of the clip!!! Its like the top has been chopped off and then re-inserted on top and same thing with the bottom of the clip. And obviously they not in sync.

b: The rendered output is slightly dull/less sharp than the original. Its like it is slightly out of focus.

I don't mind re-converting the original clips if anyone can give me advice what wud be the best format to get the same precise sharp video for VS to work with.

Thanks!!!

Hi Shaan

We need details of the original video files properties before we can suggest any settings that you could use.
Right click an original clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?

You could use Alt+PrtSc to copy the details to the clipboard, use an image editor to create an image and attach to your post.

Where did the original clips come from?

If you were to make a sample available, maybe via 4shared we could download to test the clip.

You say AVI, but there are some 800 types, Avi is just the container, the compression used is the important bit.
What are you trying to make, a video for the internet would use different properties to say a DVD?

I am having similar problems with some Mov HD clips and have converted to Mpeg2 HD, VS just did not like the mov’s even after using Smart Proxy.
VS did not convert correctly, I used AVS Video Converter.
I also think the PC may not be quite upto the job of editing some types AVCHD.
Anyway the Mpegs look ok.

TQ Trevor for all your patience and help.

Here are the pics as requested.

1. The Orginal Clip. It is from a Samsung Galaxy phone.
Image

2. Same Clip converted to .avi with AVS Video Convertor.
Image

3. Converted clip info as per VLC.
Image

The system is a Core duo2 with 4GB RAM a,d onboard Intel GMA video.

Sure. I have no issues uploading the clip to 4Shared or mediafire. Only the size might be a problem. Even with just 2 clips it is 162MB. If it is not an issue for you I can do so right away.

Thanks!!!

Here is the test render....

In it after the initial pics...the clip starts. You will see the "mirror bars" on top and bottom. Comes and goes.

Also, blurry and not sharp as the original.

The file is the same...just uploaded to both servers for convenience.

Hi Shaan

Thanks for the sample video, very strange to have those bars which seem to affect alternate clips.

I assume that after converting that the new files play ok.
You then use the converted files in your project, which again shows as ok.

When you Share Create Video File –DVD a save window opens
Choose the Options button and deselect Smart Render. Then save.
Does that improve things?
