MotionStudio Pro 3D / COOL 3D / Tips & Techniques

Post by X_WILDCARD_X »

Hello Friends.

I am learning the MotionStudio Pro 3D program previously (Ulead's COOL 3D Production Studio). I have learned a few basic things from personal exploration and found some more useful info at Gripps2211 tutorials on YouTube.

I have encountered a few challenges I am having difficulty with and would appreciate your feedback and insight.

Just introduce yourself and please let me know a little about your level of familiarity with the application. If you have links to any samples of clips/misc. you have created with MotionStudio Pro 3d Program pls dont forget to include it in your reply.

I haven't went into much detail about specific problems since I've noticed that this forum isn't really that "busy" and I don't know when or even if I might any reply at all. I have enabled my profile settings to send an automatic alert that a reply to a post I authored (like this).

So, even if this thread is aged a few days, or weeks, or perhaps even months, I'd welcome your reply.

Thank You and Take Care.

Hi X_WILDCARD_X

And welcome to the forums

First I have moved your post to the Motion Studio 3D forum where hopefully you will receive useful feedback.

You have already mentioned Gripps but in addition

for tutorials and information, to the top right of the program is a small orange disc this opens the Corel Guide where you should find some useful info, I have to say if you are using the trial version these details may be limited.

The Knowledge base, link at the top of this forum may also be useful for general installation/running issues.
The Forum Search options are useful in finding older topics, can be a little difficult to use though.

Corel also have some tutorials on Vimeo, here is a sample of one such tutorial. http://vimeo.com/25783186

You mention having some specific problems, if you were to explain what you are trying to do then you should receive help from the forum members.
I do own C3D but it gets limited use so my knowledge is a little basic but always willing to help.

Hello, X_WILDCARD_X
I'm PEGACON.
First. I am a Korean and I don't speak english very well. So, I hope for your understanding.
I live in south-korea.

I work Corel MotionStudio 3D's Beta Testers before.
In a beta test version of Corel MotionStudio 3D(CMS3D), I demand a lot function, but only minor some
Corel gave it to respond now CMS3D is applied.
I am professional in CMS3D. I know 99.9% about CMS3D.
And I know 99.9% about Ulead COOL 3D Production Studio(UC3DPS) too. Because they are almost similar.
You know, Ulead COOL 3D Studio is equal to Ulead COOL 3D Production Studio.

Below is my work contents.
I created that animation video clip with CMS3D and UC3DPS and VideoStudio X4

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1y6PBKC2zdQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JfDnUPgosLw

Difference between CMS3D & UC3DS.

CMS3D is very fast rendering but a little low quality than UC3DS.
CMS3D is corrected Z axis bug. In case UC3DS, Group objects more far and far in Z axis, then you will find a ugly object bug.
CMS3D added some Plug-In and 3D objects.

And the others, CMS3D's everything is equal to UC3DS..!!!
So, you don't worry about that.
Because If you have a Manual of UC3DS, then you read it and learn it.
Because you are americans and the Manual of UC3DS writtened in english. very easy.
I am a korean, so too hard to study English Manual of UC3DS.
Note that, the Manual of CMS3D is not exist. Because they are Equal.
If you learned and all knew about the Manual of UC3DS, then you will be a advanced user in CMS3D.

Unfortunately, I think that, CMS3D's future is dark or unclear. Because Corel is not a 3D program company.
Corel is a 2D program company. So they love and invest, improve only CorelDraw or Painter and VideoStudio and so on.
For example, Corel sold on the 3D environment program like Bryce to DAZ 3D. Because they did not necessary it any more.
However, for 3D beginners, CMS3D is very reasonable and useful program. You can learn it, if you recommend as a hobby,
not a job. But, if you want have a 3D CG Job, you will need to learn and study application like a Blender, 3D MAX or Maya,
CINEMA 4D etc.

Note that, nowadays, I studying DAZ 3D's Carrara and I also create some 3D animation content video in CMS3D too.
The Carrara program is advanced 3D programs such as a Blender or 3D Max, Cinema 4D.
ucs3d.jpg
Search this Manual of UC3D(P)S and Study.
0006.jpg
DO you have this Manual? My e-mail is tnehsdl78 *at* naver.com

Even if, people is not exist on this forum, you only need a manual of UC3D(P)S then you can study it for yourself.
Thank you for read my incorrect english phrase.

Pegacon -- I have edited your useful post to remove the @ symbol from your email address. It is not a good idea to insert your whole email address as it could be picked up by spam bots which often patrol our forums.

I agree with your comments about MS3D being really an entry-level program, though for making titles for related video programs, it is very good and versatile. I am not sure, though, that it is necessarily a dead-end product, though I also have no real idea what Corel's plans for it might be. I original had the pro version of the old Ulead Cool 3D (Production Studio). And it went for years without any upgrades. We all though it was a dead product, until a new Corel executive saw value in resurrecting it as MS3D. Unfortunately, I understand that that executive has already left Corel.

Well thank you both for your replies.
I dont have much time to elaborate right now
other than to quickly say that

1. I just UNinstalled DAZ 3D. To me, that program is a huge rip-off. It doesn't come with much in the way of built-in stuff (aside from the engine itself) or tutorials, and that sucker is not easy to learn just by trial and error. Maybe I'll check it out later, but for now, it's a benchwarmer, and not likely coming back into the game anytime soon.

2. Sorry to hear that CMS3D may be making a hasty exit. I think that if Corel made an effort to push that product as a entry-level beginner/novice offering they could exploit a hugely underserved niche. I know, because I'm in it.

3. Besides DAZ 3D, I have also uninstalled (after tinkering around enough) Corel's Designer TechSuite X5, and Corel's VideoStudio X2 & X4 Versions. I absolutely LOVE the TechSuite X5 and can't wait to get more into it soon, but truth be told I was kind of let down by Corel's VideoStudios.. They to me seemed like a re-packaging of Wondershare. The interface and even many of the features/etc are uncanny in how close they resemble each other. Anyway, so I use MagiX video editors right now. I have installed and used both MagiX VideoStudios X2 & X4 (upgraded). But I switched over to Movie Edit Pro 2013 Premium since they consolidated their trim-feature's preview window into shared-space as the main preview window. Don't know what took them so long. That trim feature preview window took up just too much screenspace to be a fixed-position stand-alone-monitor as part of the interface. I never did understand the logic. Especially when it's ridiculously easier to simply point to the desired Trim-point on the timeline at screenbottom and press the T-key, not Ctrl-T, just "T". What more do you want for crying out loud...

4. I am going thru major upgrades which include an upgrade to my current, as well as getting a new system. I work from my home, in a non-directly-internet related position, yet for telecommuting policy compliance issues I am required to have a stand-alone dedicated system with its own highspeed access etc etc.. and so without getting too specific, it's just too complicated to bother unhooking and rehooking up and swapping hard drives, etc etc.. all from one box..

_____ WELL... I didn't mean to type even this much, I'm at my condominium building's semi-public "computer room" waiting to see someone in a nearby office who is in a meeting, or else I would have rushed off..

___ And, anyway, I also DO support all of your opinions you expressed PEGACON, especially about if interested in high-quality 3Danimation to look at StudioMax.
I knew about StudioMax 3DS from independant research I've been doing, outside of learning CMS3D. I have a 2-year tech school certification as a draftsman-apprentice in architectural drafting, which as you know, is -well, drawing a lot of lines and radial curves among other things.. And AUTODESK/AUTOCAD have had practically a no-competition-of-note market position within the upper echelons of sophisticated and highly technically advanced designing and engineering software. Of course you practically have to take a second mortgage out on your house, but that's another story.... not a complaint,,just the way it is....

___YOU know I'm not really looking to become a 3DAnimation professional or work on something like the sequel to James Cameron's "Avatar", etc etc.. I have spent over twenty years in various forms of non-internet-consumer sales and marketing campaigns. I mean really down and dirty in the trenches, all the way from boiler-rooms-from-hell tmktg, negotiating hotel room rack rates over the counter at two am, to face-to-face in-the-street & door-to-door direct sales,
as well as working in polished professional call centers for everyday bluechip company name brands, and on it goes, even as you read this, although I am semi-retired from that occupation currently.... But I can say that my most valuable lesson I take with me every day all day is that no matter what anybody tells you, about being clearminded and rational, and etcetera, they are full of "it".. Human beings are not rational by nature. You have to think to be rational. And that requires intense planning, and self-discipline, and you know what - I have interacted with literally tens of thousands of both men and women, including college educated "professionals", who - when they think "nobody who knows me otherwise will probably never know about this little episode.." - are impulsive obsessive and irresponsible - a.k.a. (also known as) "impulse buyers". I am a trained experienced impulse sales specialist. I know the truth about most "real people". I never finished college, and I don't have a degree in psychology. But I would put the value of my career's worth of experiences right alongside any medical psychiatrist. I didn't have the luxury of having my clients schedule appointments and spend huge fortunes for the pleasure of me diagnosing that they are a bi-polar nervous wreck. Instead, I had the distinction of being called every name in the book and had more than just doors slammed in my face- as I was efficiently and tactfully managing my gameclock, since the whole shebang was probably gonna be over in five minutes or less anyways... You learn quick, or you don't eat. That's my degree.

One of my early mentors gave me some sage advice once: "Closed mouths don't get fed".
Sometimes the truth is so simple, but people prefer to make them complicated in order to pat themselves on the back in order to feel a "sense of accomplishment", that they are so brilliant, that they "figured it out"..

Thank You for listening to my rambling rants about nothing in particular and everything you probably never gave a rats *ss about anyway.. :D

Take Care.

Not up to your skills but this is what I made after about approximately a month of tinkering around with CMS3D.

Sorry to hear that CMS3D may be making a hasty exit.
I hope you did not deduce that from what I wrote. I don't think MS3D is necessarily going to be dropped. They kept Cool 3D/Production Studio on their books for years without further development until someone got enthusiastic enough to produce MS3D. I suspect it too might now be simply left on the books as it is, unless someone else within Corel gets enthusiastic about updating or patching it.

That being said, fortunately for me, at least, for what I am after (video titling) it does the job satisfactorily and I can certainly live with it as it is for some time to come...

As I generally indicated before, I am not really interested in "3D" animation per-say, but I like the interface of CMS3D and the ability to rapidly reposition objects and create fluid motions, with the frame-by-frame insertion (slideshow style ) insertion of many Flash and GIF animation tools. CMS3D still delivers enough pizazz for quite handsomely "dressing up" otherwise simplistic 2D animations. and that can be as handy and effective as practically having a third arm if someone is in direct head-to-head competition with another party (individually or against an entire team of specialists) for a targeted niche market's attention span.

The problem with society as a whole (another of my rants) and especially the information-technology community is the "mad dash syndrome" to get "to the next level". The reality is that I think many useful technologies and tools are too quickly discarded and abandoned, even while their practical value (ease of use, minor learning curve, etc) is still compounding. Nobody believes in letting principle mature and compound anymore. They'd rather throw it under the bus and tell everyone they were "trimming the fat"... yea, right...

Hello Again Everyone...

Here's one of my current peeves...

Does anyone know if there is a way to import videos directly to the quick palette without creating a new .3cd file each time, then selecting to use a desired video from a specified directory path and then importing into the open .3cd file of the open project, and then save it by using the add-to-easy-palette feature. I tried directly copying desired video clips into the same directories as the easy palettes Sample videos are in (C\Progr..Files\Motio..\Samples\avi\..) but the easy palette doesn't update that way. That other process is time-consuming when you want to try to make essentially the same clip with different video embedded into it, but need to go all thru that process for each seperate video. It would be so much more convenient to dump 15 clips into a directory and be able to point to that directory explicitly as a specified path- does anyone know how to do this (correctly ?) - all my attempts have failed.

thank you..

:)
