Hello Everybody,
My footage are .mts files and edited to .vsp files with "Lower Field First" with VS X4. I have no problems in converting to video files using "Same as Project Settings".
Now I wanted to try with "MPEG Optimizer" and the resulting settings given by VS X4 are:[
The setting shows "Upper Field First". How could I make changes to these Optimized settings, such as changing Upper Field First to Lower Field First; and lowering the values of "1920 x 1080" and the VBR 16,000" among others?
Would appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Re: MPEG Optimizer settings
Hi Bimbing
All HD type video .MTS files will use Upper Field First unless they use Frame Based.
Your MTS video files should be Upper Field
Please right click an original clip and select properties, view the field order, if it does not show then it will be Frame Based, aka progressive
Most other video would use Upper Field, only DV-Avi used Lower Field
The optimiser does what it says, chooses the best settings for a particular video file, and that really reflects the original video files properties.
Why do you want to change the 1920 x 1080 size?
If you wish to down convert the HD then you are best to create your own template using Make Movie Templates Manager.

Re: MPEG Optimizer settings
Thanks, Trevor. Since I have done everything, incl. the video files in "Lower Field First", in your opinion, should I redo the video files to Upper Field First?lata wrote:Hi Bimbing

What will happen if I leave it in Lower Field first and then do the Create Disc?

Re: MPEG Optimizer settings
Just in case Trevor is already in bed or otherwise engaged, can you tell us why you changed the field order in the first place from UFF in your original files, to LFF in your project? One of the most basic rules of video editing is that you should, as far as possible, always maintain the same field order as your video throughout a project. If your original video is -- as it is in the case of .mts AVCHD video -- UFF, then your should maintain UFF throughout the project. If you don't, then you will find that the final video produced by using LFF will at the very least appear to be jerky, and probably also straight lines in the video will appear jagged...

I did not know that .mts file is UFF. I thought since it is digital I need to have LFF. That is what I remembered in the past not knowing until today that my .mts footage needs UFF,
Does it mean that I have to redo everything and start editing to get .vsp file from scratch? Or could I just do Create Video file in UFF from my .vsp files done in LFF?
Thanks, Ken for your advise

Re: MPEG Optimizer settings
Yes you could. Just don't select "Share > Create Video File > Same as Project Properties". Depending on your output format e.g. AVCHD, you would choose one of the AVCHD options as the output, and they will, by default, have either UFF or Frame Based (fully progressive) in any case. Same if you choose Blue-Ray or even DVD as the output since the defaults for those are also UFF.Or could I just do Create Video file in UFF from my .vsp files done in LFF?
As you probably realise, .vsp files are not video files. They are small text files which merely tell VS what videos are in the project, where they are located, and what editing has been done to them. They only become really relevant if you choose Same As Project Properties at the end. Just because the VSP file says LFF, it doesn't mean, unless you select the latter option, that the end product will be LFF unless you manually change it to that, and here you don't want to do that!

Re: MPEG Optimizer settings
Yes, I realize that even though before the editing process, the project setting is set to LFF, you are actually working with the same and original .mst file and thus, in UFF. No, wonder when in Create Video File I selected just DVD (or AVCHD), the setting is UFF......Ken Berry wrote:Yes you could. Just don't select "Share > Create Video File > Same as Project Properties". Re: MPEG Optimizer settings
Hi
But no HD uses Upper Field, incidentally the same as Analogue video
Corel Video Studio earlier versions VS 12 X2 used Lower Field by default to be changed with X3 i think but certainly by X4.
So if you view any default templates and project properties they use Upper Field.
You can of course edit these to use another field order.
Project properties are of little significance when it comes to HD video, we are unable to set them to match the video properties, something that we have raised with Corel over a number of years?
The important settings are your choice of output template, either from Share Create Video File or Share Create Disc.
Share Create Video File –Same as First Video would be a good choice when using the MTS files.
By the way I do not think you told us the properties of your MTS files, unless I missed reading it .
There is nothing wrong in assuming that, i thought the same when HD was first introduced and found it strange that it did not follow DV-Avi being Digital Video.Bimbing wrote:I did not know that .mts file is UFF. I thought since it is digital I need to have LFF

I checked the properties of the original .mts files and as you said, they are Upper Field First.
again, thank you for helping me.
