Hi there friends!
I am not yet an owner for VideoStudio, but am in need of some technical help. This program is on my short list of software I wish to use for screen capture (creating a series of tutorials for an online classroom) and I have to be able to produce these items in a minimum of 720P 16x9 format (Ideally would like to grab at 1080P but 720 is my absolute minimum requirement). Can VideoStudio do this for me? Do I need a specific capture/video card to be able to acquire at a 720P resolution?
I have a background in broadcast television in my day job, (I edit on Quantel and Apple FCP) and what I like about this software is that it's an "all in one" solution. If this does anything what it promises to do, I'm sold!
Cheers,
Eros

Re: setting a resolution for screen captures
Hi Eros
and welcome to the forums.
The screen capture function captures the resolution of your monitor.
My monitors resolution is 1680 x 1050 and that is the max size I can capture.
The shape you choose (capture area) sets the dimensions in pixels relative to the size of your monitor.
I can manually set an area of 1280 x 720 which gives a good 16:9 aspect but would need a large monitor to achieve 1920 size.
After I set 1280 x 720 area I resize the capture window to match the capture screenarea.
VS X5 creates WMV at 15fps not the best of quality, I supposed designed for tutorials rather than recording video.
What you capture depends on your hardware, the monitor resolution.
Capturing text is not that good, so if you intend to record and display writing then Hmm…….especially if you display on a large screen.
I would suggest you give the Trial version a run to compare it with what you use at the moment before spending your money, it may not be for you?
That’s not to say you cannot screen capture with another program and edit with VS.
