VSX4 & 5

Post by girly »

I have been reading the posts about people having trouble installing VSX4 and getting a message about the system not been modified.

Today I could not open VS4 (why I do not know) so uninstalled it and tried to reinstall it and I got the same message. I tried a few solutions but gave up as I wasn't getting anywhere. I then tried to install the trial version of VS5 and again got the message about the system not been modified so I have not got either 4 or 5 installed now.

VS4 has been working ok until today so do not know why I could not open it.

I did think about buying VS5 without the trial but am not sure if it will install ok and do not want to waste money.

Sorry you are having this problem, and I have no real idea what might be causing it apart, perhaps, from the effect of a recent Windows (or other) update. My computers recently updated their Windows to the latest available, and X5 and X4 continue to work on them, however, so I find it difficult to believe that is the problem.

Have you tried doing a System Restore of your Windows to a point before the problem began? That would normally also restore X4 even though you have removed it from the current version of Windows....

Have you also tried creating a new user profile in Windows, log on using that and try reinstalling X4 that way? If that works, you can then delete the new user profile and X4 should continue to work.

I tried a system restore but didn't have many to choose from. The one I did I got the attached message.

Anyway I made a new user account and was able to install VS4 with that and now I can open it with my original account. I still cannot install the trial version of VS5 so maybe I'll try that with my new user account.

Thanks for your help

Hi Girly

During installation of Video Studio a temp folder is created, this is normally automatically emptied after install, if not the old details will/may be used for subsequent installs duplicating any errors.

You do not say what operating system you use.
For XP
—Start Run- %temp% to open the temp folder, delete the contents.
For W7 choose Start Search for %temp%, again delete the contents of the temp folder.

Ok

Creating a new account will create a separate new temp folder for that user, so any old files will not be used. This may be why installing from the new account is successful.
