Adding background sound to mute video
I have a project which is a party with background burble. I cut to a mute cutaway shot of the mountains outside the window, then back into the party. I want the background burble to run right through. How can I strip some sound off a combined video clip and lay it under the mute outdoor shot?
Used to do this quite easily in 16mm.

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
Hi Rob
Cut the video to the desired length, right click---
Split Audio will create a sound clip placed in the sound track, the video will be muted, Un-Mute the video clip
Move the audio clip to a new position.
Also
You could create a sound file Share Create Sound file, this will create a sound clip for the entire project, however you could set the Preview range then render to a specific length.

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
There are several ways to do this in VideoStudio, all pretty easy. Here's a couple ways:Talespin70 wrote:I have a project which is a party with background burble. 1. Let your video of the party run unbroken. Grab the mute mountain clip, drag it to the overlay track where you want it and adjust it to the proper length. Go to the preview window and do a right mouse click inside the window showing the mountain clip. Click on "Fit to screen." That's it... you're done.
2. Cut your main video track at the point you want to insert the mountain clip. Drag the mountain clip to the main track and adjust it for length. Now go back to the library and drag the party clip to the first audio track exactly underneath the mountain clip. Adjust the length of the party clip (the one in the audio track) so that it's the same length as the mountain clip. If you drag a video clip to an audio track, VideoStudio treats it just like an audio clip.
Hope that helps!

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
Thanks fellas!
Just what I needed.
It was so easy in 16mm but I just couldn't figure out how to do it in X5. I didn't want to stretch X5 too far as it loves to topple over on my machine. (Quad core, i7, 8GB RAM, 2TB HD)
Is it best to have raw footage on a separate drive as I used to do in Pinnacle?

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
Rob, I use VideoStudio x4, and it has been quite stable on my 2nd-generation i7 computer. I don't think it has ever locked up or crashed to the point where I lost work. If it feels a little wonky, I'll save, shut VS down and re-boot the computer. That doesn't happen often, though.Talespin70 wrote:Thanks fellas!

I have worked with VS both ways: Having everything on the main drive and having the files in a secondary drive. Both work fine. As a test, I recently worked on a complex project where I kept the files on an external USB3 drive, and it worked perfectly. I noticed no issues that I could attribute to the fact that the files were all on an external drive.

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
For the record, I also have an i7 and X5 has never -- not once! -- fallen over during editing or rendering. I normally have my video on an external hard drive, and again no problems. Notionally, indeed, it might even be a good thing for your computer since the hard drive will not be thrashing about constantly going from program to video files if they are on the same drive...

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
Again, thanks.
Now another little thing you may be able to help with.
My friends are a bit confused when the menu page comes up. One or two have even watched the whole project through on the mini-screen of the menu.
I USED to be able to cut a DVD so that the project would automatically start when the disc was inserted in the machine. No menu pages.
Can this still be done?
If so, how.
I have tried un-ticking the MENU option but it still gives me a "remote" and a small screen.
I want my video to open full screen when the machine starts.
Any thoughts?

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
now you have me a bit confused - your description implies that you and your friends are watching your project in the "Create Disc" module - are you not burning a DVD ??
why are you all watching it in the preview window - if you want to play it on your computer then just put your video in the timeline of the main programme press play and open the preview window to full screen.
The remote and preview screen are NOT a menu just a way to watch your project before you burn the DVD
Can you explain how come your friends are watching it in the create disc module ?
What are you doing ????????????????????

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
When I go to BURN DVD, it opens up this selection of Menus, which I choose one, type in the title, then burn the DVBD.
When the DVD is burned. my friends put it into their machines and it comes up as the pretty menu with the DVD in one corner. They then have to click on the PLAY arrow which gets them to the Chapter Menu. The click the play arrow again and the Video starts full screen.
I want the video to start full screen as soon as they put the dvd into their machine. (The way Pinnacle used to do it.)
How can I set X5 to do that?
Regards,
Rob

In the first screen of the "Create Disc" module - down towards the bottom left corner just above the timeline - click to uncheck the box next to "Create Menu" - then continue and you will have a DVD which starts to play the video when you put the disc in a DVD player.

Re: Adding background sound to mute video
Hi Talespin70
If you have one thumbnail in the title menu, and have created a chapter menu (Sub Menu) then the first main menu is a little superfluous.
If you wish the Chapter Menu to show first you have to hide the Main Menu.
From the edit tab—choose the Advanced button
Deselect Create Title Menu
When you play the disc the Chapter menu will show first.
Please note you are only able to hide the title menu when using one link/thumbnail.
