rendering video time

Post by Bacchus »

Hi All

this may be a silly question , but I'm gone ask anyway
When I create a videofile from about 30 min , it can take up to 3 hours rendering the project. When (without restarting my pc) I change something, it just take up some minutes.
After closing down pc and do the same thinh again, it takes again up to 3 hours.
Smart rendering is on.
So , is media studio has some temporally files and can I keep these files until my project is finished ?

Kind Regards

I'd say there are two abnormal things:

1) 3 hours rendering for a 30 min project. You don't mention your hardware and this is very hardware related. If I start with a DV AVI file, I can render it (usually) at 1 - 1.2 x real time. For a 30 min project, this would inevitably be < 40 min. Granted I have a fairly performing 'puter. As a guess, to take 3 hours, I would say we should be looking at a PIII 500 MHz computer with <256 Mb RAM. If your computer is better than that, then something must be wrong with your settings or you are doing something very exotic which you are not telling us about, such as extremely long rolling titles.

2) The temp files should remain. After rendering, you should see red and green lines above the timeline, indicating that the video and audio are compatible with your project settings. Do these lines appear when you re-enter the project. If not, it may be that your default project settings are not the same as when you initially rendered. Where have you set up MSP to place your temp files? Is it possible that you have your OS set to clean out temp files in that directory at boot-up?

Please give us fuller details of what exactly you are doing and your hardware/OS to give us a better idea of what may be happening.

Hi devil

thanks responding
Yep, my hardware isn't that high (anymore)
it's a AMD Athlon 1700 with 768b Mb of ram
But I'm using quit a lot special effect in de video(titles and others)
Yesterday evening I just changed 1 photo (also using this beside the video) and it took about 1h45 to render it again
I can'y remember I've seen the red and green lines when I restart
I also need to checkout (I'm at work now hi) where I do put my temp files
I'll let you now this evening
