New to video editing!

Post by Disneygirl33 »

Hi Everyone!
I am relatively new to video editing and sound editing in general. I have a question. I am currently working on a project in Corel VideoStudio Pro X4. I put all my video clips together (totaling 45 minutes in length) . I realized that I needed to clean up the sound on it, so I tried taking one clip of audio and putting it through Audacity. Only problem is that it took all 45 minutes of sound instead of 2 minutes. Am I just not saving the files correctly? If so, how do I do that or do I need to start over and begin from the beginning. THanks for any help!

Hi Jessica - first you will notice that I have moved your post into the VideoStudio forum as that is the product you are using.

The solution to your problem is quite simple - with your project in the time line look under the preview window where you will see a white line with an inverted triangle above it and two orange sliders under it. with your mouse cursor drag the left hand slider to the position that you want your sound bite to begin - as you do that you will notice an orange line has appeared at the top of the timeline - now drag the right hand slider to the point you want the audio to end. Pressing 'play' now will play only the section in the timeline with the orange line above it so you can check you have the correct piece.

now go "Share >> Create sound file" - but in the window which opens first select the 'Options' button down towards the bottom right corner - this will open another window where you can change the option from "Entire Project" to "preview range"

Preview range will produce a sound file from your selected portion - when you have finished don't forget to move the two orange sliders right back to their respective ends in order to play the whole project.

Thanks for that advice. I tried doing that and the option will not come up for me to preview just that range. The only option it gives me is for the entire project. What would you suggest?

Strange - are you in "Project" mode (select to the left of the play icon under the preview window) - when you move the orange sliders under the preview window do you see the orange line over the timeline like this :-
click on the image to enlarge it
click on the image to enlarge it

then when you go "Share >> Create Sound file >> options" - do you not get the option to select preview range like this :-
click on the image to enlarge it
click on the image to enlarge it

Can you explain a bit more about your project and what you see when you move those orange sliders ?
