Unspecified Error

Post by STracey »

Help -- I am trying to burn a non-HD project onto a Blu-Ray Disk and every time after the video/audio stage I get the "unspecified error" message. I have now wasted 6 Blu-ray disks trying to solve this problem. I have reloaded the software and uploaded the patch. I have checked and all my drivers are up to date. Files are not corrupted as I have checked. I have even tried this on a 16 second video and it fails. I can burn it to DVD but the quality is poor. I have tried reducing the speed to the lowest setting at 4X. It is writing to the BD-R as mentionned but the content is not recognized. If I write it to a Blu-ray file it appears to work. Very frustrating. Any assistance would be appreciated.

Can you tell us a bit more about what you are doing, please? For instance, when you finish editing your project do you first create a Blu-Ray compatible video file (Share > Create Video File > Blu-Ray)? Or do you jump straight into the burning process (Share > Create Disc > Blu-Ray)? Can you also tell us the properties of your original standard def video in the project?

I would also have to say that if you have tried burning the project to a standard def DVD and the quality is poor, then burning it to Blu-Ray is unlikely to improve the quality...

As for wasting discs, then I would suggest you continue to simply "burn" to a Blu-Ray folder instead of an actual disc, then use another program such as Roxio, Nero or even the freeware ImgBurn, to burn the actual disc. That will at least save on creating any more coasters.

I initially tried jumping straight into the burn disc (Share > Create Disc > Blu-Ray). I have since tried to go (Share > Create Video File > Blu-Ray) as well as creating a Blu-ray folder and these appear successful. I have tried with two separate formats for initial videos the first project was captured from a DV file from a camcorder. The second was HD file. Does this help.

Why would you want to use expensive BlueRay discs for a non-HD project and why would you expect better quality then on a standard DVD?
What are your settings when you creating the discs? Exactly how are you goinf about this job? What is your source materila and what are its properties?

Was using the Blu-ray because of the size of the video file I was using -- too big for a standard DVD. When trying a very small 1-2 minute video the quality DVD was so poor compared to what I was getting even on earlier Pinnacle DVD projects I had done.

Source material was initially DV imported video, with photos and music. Later tried even just a 15 second video no music and no photos. Had selected slowest speed at 4X, buffer under run protection and test before burning.

File size is really not that important when creating DVDs. 60 minutes of DV-avi will be about 13GB in size but that will fit quite nicely ona 4.7GB DVD at best quality.
The time length of your video and the bitrate you select is what matters. A standard DVD can only hold 60 minutes of video at the best quality (~8000); longer videos will require lower bitrate settings and you lose quality. At 4000 setting you can get about 2 hours of video on a DVD but the quality will be very poor. If you got low quality for a 2 minute video then it is because your source material is low quality or you using the "low quality" setting.
You still have not posted what setting you are using when burning the DVD.
