Thanks "afx" for the additional info. I am aware of the issues in the "corporate" world. I will hang in to see how things pan out. I am optimistic that ASP will survive, more so than in the later days of Bibble.

You are at liberty to consider whatever you want as hot air.
I did say deliberately "Regardless of any trial version for new customers in the eStore".
I also said it is tricky to explain here...
Rest assured is all I can suggest :!:

this thread became lively again......
Thanks for all the responses. I'm going to hold out and give Corel a chance.
I really do like the way the ASP workflow handles my stuff. If anyone from Corel might be lurking, all I can say is Fuji X-Tran and Foveon!

This tread is alive ;) because bugs on Aftershot are not corrected ;( There are a coupled os issued which I am sure has been reported hundred times on the monkey. This tread is alive because new camera (and that's my case so I might have no right to complain) are not handle by this SW. Look at what sony users are saying, it might even jump one generation of camera...

You cannot rely on a workflow where the future is incertain. Can you imagine to re-work some pictures in 5 years time. It has happpen to me. I ve already rework some picts from B4 and B5, and that's was possible, functionnalities were present (and not removed...), annoying bugs corrected or if not were handle better.
I would like to be positive as I was when I bought Biblble 4 and Bibble 5. There is no way now to trust ASP, I am sorry to say that. When you put all your effort in a decent workflow you'll have to have some clear vision of it. All the effort, all the work has to be compatible in the future, and in the past. It s not like editing an image phosotshop or gimp where you ll do it once. But on Bibble I ve got pictures since 2007. That s a lot of work, a lot of time...

Well, let me tell you a little story of mine...

I've used ASP/Bibble since version 4 (when I swapped from RawShooter). It has its niggles, but it's fast, has great workflow and gives great results IQ-wise. I recently got an Oly E-PL5 which of course is unsupported by ASP. So, I've been using a trial of LR4 and whilst LR has some great features, it's noticably slower than ASP and the UI is really messy making workflow significantly more clunky. However, I resigned myself to moving to LR and last week put an order in for it.

This weekend I played around with EXIFTOOL and by setting the camera model to 'E-M5', I've got ASP working with my E-PL5 files and I feel as if I've come back into the warm after being outside in the fridge. ASP is so nice to use compared to LR and the plug-in support is great. Nostalgia (Velvia) works really well with Oly files and gives lovely colours. All these shots were processed with ASP and I'm really impressed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/paul_kaye/ ... 53/detail/

So, I really, really hope that Corel can get their act in order and get momentum behind ASP again. I think it's a fantastic piece of software and deserves not to die a premature death.

I only hope that if worst comes to worst that Corel will consider Open-sourcing it. Maybe one of the ex Bibble developers might be interested in leading a new generation of contributors.

As a long-term user of Bibble who hasn't taken the plunge of buying into Corel, but who came here looking to see a view from the ground, this thread has been very helpful. Thanks everyone for the honest comments.

I have come to the view that Corel's approach is to make as much money as possible from the current version at least cost, which means no development and no staff working on it. I say this because there hasn't been any sign of a new beta for ages. There were some hopes when they were trying to finish the beta that was nearly completed when the old Bibble staff were sacked last year, but it seems that's all it was - getting that release out the door to make more money.

After all, if they wanted to support more cameras, then for quite a few of them they could do what users are doing themselves and just use the existing code for cameras that are already supported. If they can't do that, then what hope is there? Hence my view that they will try to sell as many copies as possible while spending nothing. Sadly this is a proven approach, although I think it will work less well in an evolving market like raw converters, where new cameras need to be supported.

I have started using other RCs, and have had to upgrade my OS to do so. I still use ASP, but less and less. I like the workflow, but I think the IQ is falling behind, and I respect my RAW files enough not to edit the model field in order to get support for a new camera.
