Hi All - new newb here. Glad to find this board. I just starting VSPX4 (with SP2).
Two issues so far:
1. Burned a few mp4 and m4v files which worked well.
But now I can't seem to get AVI files to FINISH burning. It starts the burn but then seems to hang.
2. X4 file manager doesn't seem to see or add MKV files. Is that normal? Is there a solution?
Anyone else have these problem? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Are you burning the .avi files direct to a disc - or are you trying to burn a DVD to play on a DVD player.
What sort of .avi is it - where did it come from.

Re: VideoStudio ProX4, burning avi files
Thanks for the info.
I am trying to burn avi files from PC to a DVD+R disc to play in a DVD player. The avi file(s) are from friends and play ok in various PC players (Windows Media Player, VLC Player, GOM, etc) so I think they are good files.
On another topic, it seems I can only get about 1.2GB (or 70 minutes at 1080i or p?) of video on a 4.7GB DVD disc. Is that normal? I seem to have to manually split a 2hr video into 2 files and burn over 2 DVD discs. That doesn't seem right to me. Can I get a full movie onto 1 disc? Does VS ProX4 have a feature that does this automatically and simply requests a second DVD disc once the first is full?
Thanks again in advance.

Re: VideoStudio ProX4, burning avi files
Hi
A standard Single Layer disc (DVD+R) holds 4.3 Gb of data.
A standard DVD has to use mpeg2 type video files.
So any video you wish to burn to disc has to be converted to Mpeg2
As a guide
At full quality using 8000kbps will allow for 60 minutes of video.
At 6000kbps good quality will allow for 90 minutes of video
4000kbps will allow for 120 minutes of video.
The exact properties used to create the Mpeg2 depends on the original properties of your video file.
Right click one of your Avi’s and select properties, what are they?
The mpeg2 video file can be Created/Rendered prior to burning the disc by using ShareCreate Video file, the data rate kbps being selected to reflect the duration of the video, producing a file under 4.3Gb
You can use this mpeg2 to burn a disc.
Direct from the project
If you Share Create disc the process will convert/create a mpeg2 file prior to burning the disc, the files being saved to a Temp folder.
The properties shown under the Project Settings cogwheel will be used to create the Mpeg2.

Re: VideoStudio ProX4, burning avi files
When you say you are burning .avi files to a DVD - do you really mean that ? - or do you mean you go into the "Create disc" module and import an .avi - - or do you have a .vsp which contains a .avi video.
Either way that is possibly the reason you get the error - many people have found that going straight from .avi onto a DVD gives the stall problem.
The way to avoid it is to first turn your .avi into a DVD compliant video file - that is when you finish editing do not go straight to Create Disc" but instead go to "Create Video file" then choose to make a DVD compliant mpeg-2 giving it a sensible name that you recognise as that new file. now when you go into "Create Disc" if there is anything at all in the timeline in there DELETE it - now using the import media buttons at top right add your NEW video to the timeline - proceed to the burn page but UNCHECK "Create to disc" and choose instead eithe create folders and/or create a disc image.
finally burn the folder or the image to DVD.
your last point has foxed me - a 4.7Gb disc will hold 4.7Gb - why would it not - - how long a video that represents depends on what type of video and what bit-rate you choose to burn at.
