Post by Nelrea »

Hey guys.

Im new to all this and this is my 1st time using an editing software. I have downloaded the trial and installed it but it seems very slow. it takes a couple of seconds to do any thing and if i push it, it then says its not responding. i was only trying to edit a .avi file and add some background music (just playing around with it really). My pcs not having a problem running the program coz when its open it only uses 20% CPU and 40% RAM.

Need help please.

Hi, and welcome to the forums!

The problem is that we need more information. You may not be aware, but there are over 800 different video formats which use the .avi extension, and they are often widely different from each other. True uncompressed .avi is huge, running at 65 GB per hour of video. At the other end of the spectrum are highly compressed mpeg-4 type videos -- such as DivX or XVid -- which have a very much smaller footprint.

So with one of your avi clips in the VS timeline, could you please right click on it and post ALL its Properties here. Then we will have a better idea of what we are dealing with.

Sounds like your PC is not up to the task perhaps. List your system specs.

Hi Nelrea

You are not giving us much to go on, Ken asked you to provide the properties of your video files, doing so may give us a clue as to the settings you require to convert your files. Knowing what you are intending to use them for would also help, I assume a video for the internet.
Also say if you are using Pal or Ntsc types.

Windows media files can use 1280 x 720, Mpeg4 is also available and will do 1280 x 720.
Try the Share Upload to Web, HD this will give you Mpeg4 at that size.

Otherwise use the Share Create Video File –Custom option—Mpeg4 or WMV to set your own properties.

As we say if you provide more details we can give a better response.
