Just lost an important photo.
When I open X5, I select a photo. I click on one of the "Instant effects" The photo changes to whatever I selected. The problem. if I don't like it, that's tuf as the go back button does nothing 9 times out of 10 ("revert current editing") so, to get the original back I close X5 expecting to get the message "Save changes to xxxxx. No it seems it has saved it to whatever effect I chose.... no turning back it seems.

Re: Revert current editing unreliable
Never !! Never!!! Never!!! Work on original copies of important photos. Always work on a copy. Back up your original important images at least twice on separate off computer storages, stored in different locations.
I think there was another post that had a similar problem and it was pointed out that the a copy of original may be stored somewhere on your computer.
Hopefully someone will come up with an answer.
I had that happen accidently wih copy number 3, but it was not too difficult to resuscitate it from backup number 2.

Re: Revert current editing unreliable
Lesson learned.
Have only had 48 hours (fromX2) so still playing. It seems in Adjust mode any instant effects, or anything for that matter I can "go back" as you would expect. You have instant effects in Manage mode, and that's where I am having problems. Sometimes when applying the effect the little go back button lights up, but more often than not it doesn't so I am now stuck with that effect. I have now switched off instant effects in Manage mode so all effects I do (try) will be done in Adjust mode.

Re: Revert current editing unreliable
Yeah, we tried to tell Corel that having it open by default in manage mode was a bad idea. It's not terrible if 1) the undo worked properly and 2) if people are familiar with it from the get-go. But as it is I think many have lost at least one image to this thing. I know I have.
As hartpaul said, backing up is the only sure method.
Below I offer two emergency options that might work from time to time. But obviously aren't a guarantee. 1) Corel's Preserve Originals option and 2) Window's Shadow Volume Copy for restoring previous versions of files.
1) Make sure X5 is setup to preserve originals. X5 will create a "hidden" folder in the same directory as the original image and save a copy of your image in there if Preserve Originals is turned on.
Go to the menu and select File -> Preferences -> General Program Preferences.
You'll see the Auto-Preserve option in the list. Make sure the checkbox next to "Enable Auto-Preserve" is checked.
If it's checked the image may already be copied to a hidden folder for you. If not....sorry.
2) There might be one other option though. Windows has a built in feature called Volume Shadow Copy.
Using Windows Explorer (not Internet Explorer but the file view, sorry I have to emphasize that some people know some people don't). Go to the folder that image is in, and right-click on the image. There should be an option called "Restore Previous Versions" if you have system protection turned on it should have maintained a copy of one of your previous saves.
If it didn't you want to make sure you have this feature turned on and make a system restore point every so often.
