VS X5 Importing
I have just installed VS X5 and when attempting to capture/import from my Panasonic HDC-TM 700 camcorder am unable to do so. I get two messages either "Use a display environment of 1024* 768 or more", or "There is no capture driver installed on this system". Neither of which make much sense. I was previously using VS X4 with no problems importing. Should I assume that the necessary driver is on the DVD or do I need to download another driver. Your comments would be appreciated and should a driver be necessary your advice on what and where to obtain it would be useful. I have HD Writer AE installed. Any help would be appreciated.
Roy.

Re: VS X5 Importing
You do not "capture" with this camera. You copy files off of it like it's a USB drive; do that at the OS level. Save them to a local hard drive, and then import into VS

Roy - I am a little concerned about your use of the word "capture" - you do not capture from your camera - did you have this camera when you were using X4
You have a number of options which you use instead :-
first option is to use HD writer to transfer your videos from the camera to your hard drive and then use the 'Insert Video' option within VideoStudio to get the videos in to VideoStudio time line .
second option connect your camera to the PC using the USB cable supplied - open "Computer" and you will see the camera displayed as an external drive - browse to the folders in the camera until you find the videos (on my similar camera they are buried in a folder in a folder) then drag and drop them to a folder on your hard drive. Then use the 'Insert Video' option within VideoStudio to get the videos in to VideoStudio time line .
Third option is similar - this time take the SD card out of your camera - put it in a card reader/card slot on your PC - open "Computer" - browse to the card - etc. etc. etc.

Re: VS X5 Importing
You should use the HDWriter that came with your camera? I always download using this software with the SD card plugged into the reader on my PC. I am surprised you did not use this method with VSx4.
The only time I "capture" directly is with my other camera, a Canon HV20 which is tape based. I use the FireWire option to download and the time stamps on the tape to break the continuous video into scenes. With my Panasonic HC-V700 all the scenes are split into files and, therefore, can be dowloaded into my PC just as I would with files from an external drive. The downside is that the V700 creates lots of other files relating to its "housekeeping" process. HDWriter strips all this extra "baggage" away and presents me with either the video or the still photo files that I can directly save in the relevant folders. In the case of video I "capture" directly from the video folder using the "Import from Digital Media" option in the Capture window.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: VS X5 Importing
Thank you for your suggestions for importing audio. Unfortunately none of these work. The item I wish to import is in a folder and is named Video_TS but is apparently
not acceptable to VSX5. I have yet to try the HD Writer option but have had no success with this in the past. Any further suggestions? Thanks in anticipation.

Re: VS X5 Importing
A Video_TS folder is a folder used on a DVD and VideoStudio can import these but you need to use the "Import from Digital Media" option - this will open a window headed "Select Import Source Folders" - browse to the Video_TS folder and make sure you tick the box - when the folder opens make sure that the file thumbnails it selects have ticks in their top left corner - then you should be able to import the VOB files.

Re: VS X5 Importing
I'm afraid I've tried what you have suggested and when I open the folder I am informed that "No items match your research". I know that the audio files are there and available to play. They are MP3 files and open and play in Windows and other audio programmes. I'm at a loss what to try next.
Thanks for your help to date. Roy.

Re: VS X5 Importing
Further to your query regarding the camera, ie, is it the Panasonic TM 700? No. I have ripped some music off of a DVD bought in Burma with the intention of using the music as background to a Video, shot with the TM 700, that I'm in process of making of a trip to Burma. I wanted to use ethnic music but it appears this won't be possible. Cheers, Roy.

Re: VS X5 Importing
Hi
Copy the DVD entire contents to your hard drive.
Locate the VOB files and rename using MPG as the file extension
Then try to inport the new mpg files to video studio.

Re: VS X5 Importing
If you already have the audio off the DVD in mp3 format, just open those mp3 files in an audio editing program, such as the freeware Audacity, and convert them to standard .wav format. That should always work in VS. (FY, successive versions of VS have had problems with certains types of mp3, particularly when it is made using the LameMP3 codec...)

Re: VS X5 Importing
We started this topic talking about importing from a camera - then we had a Video_TS folder - now we are talking mp3.
are you saying the mp3 files are in a Video_TS folder.
If you open the Video_TS folder what files do you see inside of it.

Re: VS X5 Importing
The raw files from my Panasonic HC-V700 camera are MPEG-TS Video files but the files, when imported via the Panasonic software HDWriter, are shown as AVCHD files. I always use the HDWriter program to download both video and stills from my V700 and I have no problem with VideoStudio collecting (Capturing) the video files using this process. I have used a direct "Capture" using USB but this process seems to work better.
I would always recommend using the supplied software to help with the download.

Re: VS X5 Importing
Hi
I think Rollason has two types of video, one from the Panasonic camera, no problems there, at least there shouldn’t be.
And a DVD that is to be used for the background audio.
The DVD may be copyright in which case it will not import to VS.
If the files are imported to the PC they will be Mpeg2 types, the audio can then be copied using Share Create Sound File.
