PSP 9 Freezes up everytime

PSP 9 Freezes up everytime
I have PSP 9...every time I try to use my eraser tool or any of the brushes as soon as I click on it to use I get not responding and have to click out of what Im working on and usually loose it..anyone know whats going on and how I can get this to work??
