Video TS folders can be temperamental

Post by tonyjer »

Hi everyone

Am trying to combine 2 video files into 1 TS folder as I have done since ancient times.

The video files are movies converted from VHS and are respectively 2 hs 10 mins and 1 hr 55 min long. (File sizes are 4 GB and 3.6 respectively)

When you cobine the videos in the share/create disk routine VS8 confirms that overall size is 7.6GB.

When you select the "create video TS folder" you get an error message after about 56% of video/audio multiplexing which confirms "OUT OF DISK SPACE".

Never had this message in the circumstances before. How does disk space apply to video TS folder when there is more than enough space on the HDD?

Is there some limit on the maximum possible TS folder size? If so, I assumed this could only be if the combined size was >8.5GB. (Even then this seems strange when you can use DVD shrink etc)

Believe me, I have followed this approach many times and always follow the workflow to the letter.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks for your time.

Did you remember to uncheck the "Record to disc" box? Just check the "Create DVD folders" box.

The only thing I can think of for the moment is whether you might inadvertently not have changed the 'Disc size: 4.7 GB' box in the little 'Settings and Options >Preferences' icon in the bottom left of the burning module screen, to '8.5 Gb'. The burning module might then have 'thought' that a 4.7Gb disc was to be your ultimate target and thus gave you the 'out of space' message even though you were only producing a Video_TS file at this stage.

HI Antonio, hope you don't mind me butting in on your problem, (no answer I'm affraid) but I have been trying to put some VHS tapes on DVD with VS8 capturing via my DVcam but get a lot of stutter and frames that lose the colour and go grey. You sound as though you have had a lot of success and I was wondering what hardware you use to capture the VHS with and if you use any special settings.

Hi AL

Sorry about the delay.

Just had a hell of a day in work.

I use a cable with the conventional red white and yellow cable which then fit into a scart connector with input as well as ouput facility. (Apparently thats important-even tho you set it to output!

The vhs tape is then fed thru my Canon MV630i (with the AV-DV facility activated) and then into the PC using firewire.

I capture using VS8 and have been doing this reguarly for about 12 months with only minor hitches.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for replying Antonio,

It's funny I am using the same Canon Camera. You say you connect to a scart connector with input and output, not sure what that is. I assume you use that to connect to your VCR, I connect direct with the r,w y, RCA cables from the VCR to the Camera and then firewire to the PC. I tought the conversion in the camera may be the problem but obviously not if you have no problem there. Do you capture as DVD/AVI with the normal settings in VS8?

Hi Alan-sory for the delay again

Alan

Essentially, the scart just gives a better quality signal than just plugging in the r/w/y cables separately.

Yes it just goes form the VCR to the AV socket in the Canon.

I always capture in DV (type 1).

My main problem is my OS (Win ME) which limits video file sizes to 4Gb.

I have learnt a hell of a lot in the last 12 months thru the help of the folk on this board.

Good Luck

Thanks Antonio,
I will look into those option and see if I have any better luck. I must say I have been pleased with VS8 and the results upto date. I agree with your comments that this is such a great site and the people that offer information and support are so good to share their knowlage and time, I hope some time in the future I will be able to do the same.

Hope you have luck solving your other problem.
