VS Pro X4 - Crashes on Rendering
Haven't used this for a while, but just put together a 40s short video with sound. Tried to upload directly to You Tube, but the program crashes after around 20% has been rendered. I reset everything and deleted temporary files, but same thing. Also tried creating straight to file, but same outcome.
Any ideas?

For additional info.
This is a project first created November 2011. I've loaded it up, replaced a couple of images and tried to create the MPEG4 video - either directly to You Tube or onto my hard drive. 20% renders fine, then the crash and creation of a DMP file.
Very frustrating

Re: VS Pro X4 - Crashes on Rendering
I had that problem a couple of times and in both cases tracked it down to a video file that VideStudio didn't like. I used to make a lot of videos using HD video clips from cell phones. It was these clips (from a couple of different phones) that gave VideoStudio heartburn. It was just as you describe: I'd start rendering, the render would get to a certain point, then fail. Once I determined it was a bad cell phone video clip, I was able to work around the problem.
Hope that helps!

Re: VS Pro X4 - Crashes on Rendering
Since your video is so short, replace the new images with a couple others and see what happens when you render. Do you still have access to the photos you used in Nov. 2011? You might try them again to see if they now cause the render to fail as well. If they work fine, then there is something that VideoStudio doesn't like about the new photos.duncannisbet wrote:For additional info.

If that is the case (VideoStudio doesn't work with some photos you have), import them into a photo processing program (Photoshop, Corel Draw, etc.) and re-save them. That may fix the problem.

Re: VS Pro X4 - Crashes on Rendering
Hi Bob,
I still had the original project, so just tried re-rendering from that with the images/media that worked before. It too crashed out
It's around 14 months since I last used VS, but I see no further updates or patches to download. I have added Contour software since then, so will try removing that to see if makes a difference.

Have removed Contour software, still no joy.
It does suggest it is the software rather than the content though and that suggests a conflict with something ...
May 2012 is the last date I created a video successfully.

Re: VS Pro X4 - Crashes on Rendering
Try assembling three or four video clips into a 30-second video and see if that will render. It does sound like there's something going on with your copy of VS x4, but it takes only a minute or two to render a really short video. I'm curious if it will work with just video and no photos.duncannisbet wrote:Have removed Contour software, still no joy.

FWIW, I use VS x4 all the time for a wide assortment of projects, both complex and simple. It works very well for me.

Re: VS Pro X4 - Crashes on Rendering
Interesting results!
I did as you suggested - first to create video "as project settings" and it worked fine.
Then tried using MPEG-4 HD and again, worked fine.
So, back to the original project ...
Create video "as project settings" and this time it worked!
Tried again using MPEG-4 HD and ... crashed out again
Standard def will do for this project, but really strange

Re: VS Pro X4 - Crashes on Rendering
You can try rendering to AVCHD or WMV. Both those are HD and will upload to sites like YouTube. Will be interesting to know if either of them work.
When I first started with VideoStudio, I typically rendered to 720p WMV files, as they just seemed to give me the fewest problems in rendering and viewing. Now I render to 1080i AVCHD, which is what my camera produces. Because it's the same format in and out, rendering time (using VideoStudio's SmartRender feature) is surprisingly fast.
Good luck!
