Total newbie to video studio pro X5
I am in the trial phase of Corel Video Studio Pro 5. Everytime I try to edit any videos, once converted, the quality is horrible. I have tried different cameras, and even screen capture. And if anyone can tell me how to get Videos from my Nikon d3200 into Video Studio, I would appreciate it. I have tried everything, I even converted it to a Quicktime video, still does not work. I need lots of help. LOL!!!

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
Welcome to the forum Dawn.
Despite quite a lot of searching around the internet I am unable to find out what format your videos are recorded in - I have read a great deal about how good the videos are and the frame sizes and the frame rates - but what I am after is what extensions do the video files have - for instance are they .mov or maybe .m2ts or mp4 or what ?
If you don't know then can you remove the SD card from the camera and put it into a card slot or a card reader on your computer - then have a look at the video files in "My computer" or Windows Explorer and let us know what they are.
We should then be able to tell you how to get them into VideoStudio and how to edit them.

The spec suggests MPEG-4 AVC.
Quite an amazing camera with a serious spec!
Why am I uncomfortable when "still" cameras and phones are used for video recording? I would not dream of taking video with my Olympus E-10 but I do take the odd photo with the HC-V700!

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
I also understand the Nikon d3200 can film in 50/60 frames per second. So you would also need to enable "60/50 fps editing" under Settings in VS X5. And for output, once you have selected AVCHD in that screen shot you posted, go back to the General tab and also change the frame rate to 60 fps if that is what your original video was filmed at.

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
I found that screen shot on the board. I can not find that anywhere in VideoStudio, does someone know how to get to that? I have found a work around for now, it is just time consuming. I use Window Live Movie Maker and save it to a wmv file then, I can add it to VideoStudio I really took some videos to test out the software before I decide whether I want to buy it. The file extension is .mov. Thanks for all of your quick replies.

Converting your files to .wmv in Moviemaker will destroy the quality of your HD videos.
To find that window in the attachment you posted - which is the final output settings - first you must have your video in the timeline - then click on "Share" at the top - a new options panel will open - choose "Create Video File" - - a drop down opens, at the bottom click on 'Customise' - a new window will open - down towards the bottom right corner click on the button marked 'Options' and the window of your desire will open.
Although how it's going to help you I do not know.
what problems are you having with getting the files from your camera VideoStudio handle my .mov videos with no problem at all.
if you have a card reader with your PC then remove the SD card from your camera and put it in the card reader - if you do not have a card reader then plug your camera into your computer using the USB lead which usually comes with the camera.
Now open Windows Explorer (or My Computer) and you will either see the card listed or the camera as an additional drive.
Drag the video files from the card/camera to ANY suitable folder on your hard drive.
Now open up VideoStudio and RIGHT click over the timeline and choose "Insert Video" from the pop out. - in the new window browse to you new video files - select them and click on 'open' and the videos will appear in your timeline for editing

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
I have tried all of that. I would create a video file in VideoStudio, if I could get the video into it. But I can not. I have tried drag and drop, I have tried by inserting memory card into reader, I have even tried using a USB cable straight from my camera. VideoStudio does not recognize my camera. It will find all the folders, but won't find the actual movie. It does degrade the video and to me that is unacceptable. If I can not figure out how to get VideoStudio to recognize the file, then I don't know if I will purchase it when my trial phase is over.

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
VideoStudio does not have to recognise your camera - shut Videostudio down and do what I explained above - you do not use Videostudio to transfer from your camera to your PC - once you have them on your PC you simply use the 'insert' command in VS to put them in the timeline.
If you can see all the folders on your SD card then OPEN each and everyone of them until you find the one with the videos in - my camera buries them in a folder within a folder within a folder.

Thanks for all your help.

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
I have tried this too, and get the same as the screen captures in my previous posts.VideoStudio does not have to recognise your camera - shut Videostudio down and do what I explained above - you do not use Videostudio to transfer from your camera to your PC - once you have them on your PC you simply use the 'insert' command in VS to put them in the timeline.

I am sorry I am such a pain, and I appreciate all of your help on this matter. I have tried to contact Corel, but since I am in the trial phase, I don't have a support ticket.

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
Have you copied the movie files from the SD card to your hard drive using Windows Explorer? Forget VS for the moment and do not use it.
If yes, can you play those movies with a software player such as Windows Media Player (WMP) or the VLC pakyer? If not then of course VS will also not recognize them and and you have to fix the "play" problem first.

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
Yes I have copied them to my harddrive, I can open them in Windows Live Movie Maker and save as a HD video, once done, I can then use in VideoStudio. But that degrades the quality some. I can even play them in Picasa 3. The original won't play in VideoStudio, I have to render them in Movie Maker first which takes time, so it is like double work.

Re: Total newbie to video studio pro X5
Would it be possible for you to upload a 20 or 30 sec clip to a free webhosting site from where we can download it and test it?
