Hi,
I hope you can help me out.
Ive recently upgraded to Win 7 Home Premium and need to edit some video, so I dug out the X2 setup files and tried to install.
The program appears to install OK but I have a few issues:
1) online activation will not work, the program runs but when I enter my serial it complains that it cant access the internet even though it clear is working! So I'm left with 29 days of my trial!
2) None of the patches I have, Sp1 and Sp2 for VS will install as they both claim to be unable to find Video Studio 12 on the system.
Ive set the program and patch installers all to run as administrator and the account is already an administrator so I'm a little stuck as to why it wont work. Ive hunted on here a bit and cant see anything that could help unless anyone knows otherwise (apologies if I'm asking a repeat question). Others do seam to have this version running under Win 7 so I guess it must be possible.
many thanks
Andy

Re: Video Studio Pro X2 will not install under Win 7
Many older programs and versions are not compatable with the newer operating systems. I found this to my cost when trying to load my favourite word processor under Windows 7 - it worked OK under XP.
I am now on a new WP and Spreadsheet package. So either stick with your old OS (probably XP) or when you upgrade your OS, be prepared to upgrade your software. I am now on Windows 7 (64bit) for the extra memory access capability and on VSx5 - works great!!!
IT IS CALLED PROGRESS.

I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not so sure.

Re: Video Studio Pro X2 will not install under Win 7
Huh? I run VideoStudio x2 on a Windows 7 Home Premium computer and it works fine. No problems at all. I now have a second computer, also with Win 7, on which I run x4. However, I still have x2 on the first Win 7 computer and used it to edit hours of video. I still use it occasionally, and just confirmed that it opens and runs normally.

Yes I have VideoStudio X2 running on windows 7 as well - I do not recall doing anything special to get it running so it is obviously possible - but what is the difference I wonder.

Re: Video Studio Pro X2 will not install under Win 7
Don't forget, though, that there was a service pack update which made X2 fully compatible with Win 7 -- particularly in the burning module. However, the OP mentions the service packs as not being able to find his installation of X2 -- which would make sense since that installation is still an unactivated trial version, and update patches don't work with the trial version.
So I am wondering if his original installation was of a downloaded version as opposed to the downloaded trial version...? I seem to recall that the S/N given for one would not necessarily work with the other... In other words, the full download version would not need to be activated, but the download trial version would need activation.

Ah yes - service pack 2 , available here :-
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=1300014
is to make X2 run on Win 7 - but as you say Ken - patches cannot be applied to trial versions.

Re: Video Studio Pro X2 will not install under Win 7
Thanks for all the comments. I knew I wasn't mad thinking it should work with Win 7!
With regards to the comments re which version I have. Yes it was originally a trial version which I later purchased a key for as I found it really useful. On XP I installed the trial and then a few days later typed in the key, no problem. All the bonus packs installed and SP1 patch without issue.
Now none of the patches can find the main program and if I type in the key it sits for a minute and tells me it cant find an active internet connection. Ive allowed VS access over the firewall but no change.
Very frustrating as others appear to have managed it.
Did anyone do anything special when installing their version?
Thanks Again

Re: Video Studio Pro X2 will not install under Win 7
I'm afraid all I can say here won't be at all helpful. But your situation illustrates a point we always used to make about older versions of VS -- namely, that it was usually better to try out the trial version, but not to then activate it. A lot of users in the past used to have similar problems with the activated trial version. Instead, we used to recommend that if they decided to buy the product, then they should uninstall the trial version, and buy the full download version which has a different serial number and the version itself did not need activation as the serial number for it was in effect the activation.
