VS 7 to 9?

Post by GuyL »

I have been using version 7 for some time now and it is very stable and performs well. I like some of the features I see in version 9 but I am leary to upgrade because I don't think those are worth any form of instability in the software. Any comments?

I was in exactly the same place as you about three weeks ago. (I had been using VS8 from the day it came out but same philosophy: If it ain't broke, don't fix it.)

I remembered how people had griped over VS8 after happily using VS7, but when I went to VS8 I had almost no problems at all. So perhaps there wouldn't be any problems with VS9. Also, it appeared in a local electronics store for $19 so I couldn't NOT buy it.

I kept VS8 running in case VS9 turned out to be a bust.

But -- it didn't! It has some definite advantages. It's immediately likeable! I can't remember VS7 clearly enough to be sure, but you're sure to be shocked and pleased. Navigation is much easier, editing is easier. Ripple-editing keeps titles, voice-over, and music from getting shifted out of place by additions to the video track. It's considerably improved.

Remember that the forum exists to help people with problems. You're not getting a good overview of the new version by reading the posts. People without problems usually don't spend time posting. You could wait till doomsday and you would never find 90% of the posts saying "Just thought I'd let everybody know I love the software."

Go for it!

Thank you for the reply it is much appreciated. I may just install it separately and do a project in it and see the outcome. I assume you can have both exists even if you only upgrade and don't install the full version?

Yes you can have both versions on your PC - no problem as long as you only try to run them one at a time- I have the last three versions still installed and available.

The upgrade is a full version the only cutdown programmes are the free trials and 'SE' versions

Just be aware that if you have UVS 9 and then uninstall UVS 8, the SmartSound feature may break -- at least it did for me. A quick trip to Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs -> Change -> Repair fixed it, though.
