Limited disk menu templates

Post by Powelly_au »

Hi VS,
I have recently update my Corel VS from X3 to X5. As in X3 with MovieFactorey 7SE there only seems to be very limited DVD or Blu ray menu templates. I only have about eight possible fairly basic looking menus in either the MF7SE or X5 version of software. Some SV tutorials I have been watching lately seem to have quite a good selection of menu templates, particularly those with thumbnails, via the drop selection menu allowing very shmic professional looking menus in VS X5. As my primary reason for upgrading was to improve the quality of the disc creation process and menus can you please advise how / where I can get additional disk menu templates for creating Blu Rays aand any tutorials you thik helpful in menue creation tequniques. Any advice or assistance you can give in this matter would be very much appreciated. Regards, Mark

The first place to look to look for some more menu templates is in the Corel guide which opens when you start VideoStudio or can be opened by clicking on the big orange button up in the top right corner of the VS screen. In there click on the "Do More" tab and you will find two menu packs to download for free - download and install them and that adds another 15 or so menu templates to your choices.

You can of course also use all the templates you have from previous versions and from MS by transferring them into the appropriate X5 folders.

Apart from that though the menus in VideoStudio are so easily customised and saved for future use within VideoStudio that even if you only started with one thumbnail template you could quickly build up a stock of completely personal and customised menus which will make your videos unique.

have a look at this video I made which gives an insight into customising menus - and of course you can come back here to ask additional questions if you wish.

Menu customisation video :- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rMDId9qnVV0

I just knocked up this one for a Blu-ray disc - you will not find it as a ready made template but it took literally minutes for me to make from one of the supplied ones to show you the possibilities :-

Thanks Brian,
Very much appreicated. How do I copy my templates from SV 11 over into X5, is there a specific template file in SV 11 that I can transfer into the X5 directory. Can you advise what file and what directores the templates reside.

Also I have been reading some threads regarding saving Blu Ray disk information on your PC as a backup for home videos. In the past I have always saved my DVDs as an ISO file but that doesn't seem to be an option for Blu Ray disk creation in SV X5. I believe you recommend saving as a BDMV and certificate file. Can you advise what the best software to play a BDMV file showing the menues etc. and also the best software to create / burn a Bly Ray disk from the BDMV files on my PC. Regards, Mark

On my 64 bit machine the menu templates are stored in :-
C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X5\Content\Menu Template

Yours should be the same but without the (X86) bit

Note that in the Menu template folder are a number of subfolders for format (4:3 or 16:9 etc.) - and thumbnail/text menus - a quick browse around there will show you what goes where - note that Corel refer to thumbnail menus as "Scene Button" ( not 'one scene' which is slightly different).

I do not have version 11 currently loaded on any of my computers but apart from being Ulead you should find them in a similar place - so as a guess and from memory try :- C:\Program Files\Ulead systems\Ulead VideoStudio\11.0\Content\Menu template - as I say that is from memory but it will be something like that - what you are looking for are the .ufo files and if there is are any files in there with the same name but ending in MS.ini copy them over as well - the template MAY not work if there is no ini file. note that you have to shut down and re-open VideoStudio before they are visible.

Note that when you modify a menu template and save it for future use by using the "add to menu template " option in the create disc menu that VideoStudio creates an additional folder at :- C:\Users\Brian\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\15.0\Favorites and also puts a new category under the drop down of the choice gallery in the create disc module - that folder is only created once you have saved a template it is not there before.

you cannot have .iso files of a blu-ray disc which is why there is no option for it in VS but the BDMV alternative is just as good, many of the users on here use a free programme called Imgburn to burn a Disc from the BDMV folder - you can download the imgburn programme from here :-

Hi Brian, Thanks for the information provided. Everything worked perfectly and I now have a good selection of BD menus that I have customised for my home Blu Ray movies. ImgBurn also works a treat once you distinguish between "writing" a disk and" building" a disk. Much appreciated. Regards, Mark

Hi Sirs,
As described in several times in this forum, I tried to import menu templates from VideoStudio X2 into VideoStudio X3, but I have not succeeded yet. In my VS X3 I have two kinds of menu templates in 4:3 size in two subfolders: Fun and Legacy, while in X2 8 or 9 (Vacation, Sports, Baby&Kids, Corporate etc...subfolders). In spite of importing these subfolders from X2 into C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X3\Content\Menu Template\4x3, the Corel DVD Factory Pro 2010, as the disc authoring module of my VS X3, does not list the imported subfolders as stylies to be selected (Select a Style still lists: Fun and Legacy) No surprise: while in X2 the menu templates are created by a single ufo file with one setting.ini file in each category of menu templates, in X3 each menu template consits of one or two jpg or png files + mts file + ufo file + ini file as they are not standstill menu templates but motion ones. How can I use the menu templates in older versions of VS in VSX3? How can I import and use Text Button, Scene Button, One Scene Button subfolders as well as Customize Subfolder with its sub-sub folders (Frame, Navigation Button, Scene Selection Layout, Text Only Layout) to customize a menu in VSX3?
Thanks for any help in advance

Unfortunately, VS X3 was perhaps the worst version -- and the worst mistake -- Corel ever made with regard to Video Studio. They substituted the previous burning module -- which contains the templates -- with Corel DVD Factory Pro 2010 which was a silly, simplified program with a number of problems. And as you have already found, the templates in it were of a different nature to those of earlier (and later) versions of VS. So I would not even be thinking of trying to import older templates for use in X3.

In fact, Corel -- in the face of a sustained uproar from users on this forum and elsewhere -- quickly tried to fix their error by making available to users a cut-down version of their (then) mainline disc authoring program: MovieFactory 7SE. I am not sure whether that program is still available but there is a whole sub-forum dedicated to it here, and you may find a link for its download which might still work: http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewforum.php?f=80 MF 7 SE was issued free to users who had bought X3. But for the moment the full version of MovieFactory 7 is still available for purchase on the Corel.com site.

The advantage of MF 7/MF 7 SE is that it uses the same burning engine as in earlier versions of VS, and indeed that same burning engine was restored in VS X4 and subsequent versions. Although the method of selecting the burning module in the current version of VS which is X7 is new, the burning module itself is much the same. So I would suggest you consider downloading the trial version to see how it goes.

Hi

Just to add that the download for Movie Factory 7 SE was available from an update via the Corel Guide, but first you had to install Service Pack 1, then the program update became available.
Go to the Corel Guide and check for updates….

If already installed --- when you do Share Create Disc you are given the two options (pro2010 or MF 7 SE ) choose the later.

Even so I would use X2 to burn your discs, the burner module as Ken says is the same.

I too have the same problem, going from VS12 to VS X5. I have a favourite menu page I always use. I tried copying the jpeg into the template file - no sign. So then I copied a .ini file & a .ufo file from the template directory, renamed them to the next number up (09) & dropped them back in the template directory. Now I have a ninth menu template showing, but it's just a blank page that, not surprisingly, has the same layout as the previous template. Is there any way to get my image to work, or is going from VS12 too far away.

Failing that, is it possible to create new templates? I hate all the ones offered! - Sorry. I've just read the top of the page!!

Thank you.

Hi John

Copying the template files from one version to another should work.
Make sure you copy all files in the group.

Which template are you particularly interested in.?

You could try using X12, customise your template and save the template, that will create a Favourites folder here
C:\Users\UserName\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\12.0…15.0
Maybe here
C:\Users\User Name\Documents\Corel VideoStudio Pro\Corel VideoStudio Pro\12.0

Do the same using X5, you have to customise one to generate that favourites folder.
Then copy the files from Favourites X12 to Favourites X5

If the customise options are not sufficient , Yes you can create new templates but need to use Photo Impact.
Only that program can create new templates. I have to say that I am having some issues in using that program for X7 templates?

You can fully modify and customise all of the menu templates supplied to make them your very own and then save them for future use - I have many that I customised 4 or 5 versions ago and I am still using them

have a look at this video - should help you - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fIuoQp6Bstc

it is entirely up to you what your menu looks like

Thank you for the suggestions. I've managed to create a menu by modifying one of the supplied ones & used my picture as a background. Now, how do I save it as a favourite? I've searched all over the screen, but I can't find a save option.

Also I notice your video shows 5 selections of Gallery menu including All & Favourites. My Gallery options are just All & Favourites (which is empty).

The option to save the menu template for future use comes in the "edit >> Customise" section of the menu change options as soon as you move or change anything in the menu the option "add to menu template" becomes availalble - just click on that - you will then have at least one item in 'favorites'

but you should have more options than just favorites you should have single scene and text options - did you install the bonus pack which came with VideoStudio - if you obtained by download did you download and install two packages.

have you downloaded the extra menus from the Corel Guide - Do More window.

Brian, thank you for your reply. In answer to your questions, I don't remember if I installed the bonus pack. I have a download version rather than a disc version. In my Download folder there is a file called VSProX5_SP2.exe. When I run this, it says: "The installed version of the application could not be determined. The set up will now terminate". Is this something I should have installed, if so, how? If I haven't got the bonus pack, can I still get it? If I have got it but haven't installed it, what would it be called? I'm currently searching the computer for VSProX5.exe(?). I still have the original order (Nov 2012) with the link to the X5 download.

I've just tried modifying a menu template. I changed the background, hid various unwanted items & added some text. Then I clicked on Edit>Customise & there's my modified menu though with the hidden items restored. After a bit of searching, I found the save button - Add current menu to favourites - but it was greyed out & ignored my clicking!?

Sorry to be so dumb.

John
