I am unable to start PSP X5 due to a runtime error. I am using Windows 8. The error message is: "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library, This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way."
I tried reinstalling PSP and then also tried to repair it but neither worked.
I decided to completely uninstall PSP X5 and reinstall it. I removed all traces of the program from my computer but when I try to install it, the message says it is already installed. So I tried removing is and the message is that it is not installed. I even ran a regedit to remove all traces of PSP from the registry.
I have barely used this program and have had nothing but trouble with it.
PSPX5 worked fine for months until Saturday, and no Windows updates, programs have been installed at all after this time. I have checked all Windows event logs.
Have removed all traces of Corel, Paintshop Pro, etc. with JV16 Powertools, but when i re-install, a. the installer cannot find any of the MSI's in the %appdata% Temp folder, and b. once the program is installed after me having to lead the installer to each and every MSI, it is showing SP2's version number on startup. The error still occurs. I have tried PSPX5 in "Safe Mode"but it still will not start...same Visual C++ runtime error.
I followed the instructions for manually removing PSP5 and then reinstalled it and it works now. The problem seemed to be with the update because if I updated it, I got the Visual C error message. Someone at Corel needs to know that the update is buggy!
So you think it is the SP2 update causing the problem?
I also did the manual uninstall, but now it will not even re-install...cannot even find the path to where it unpacked it's own MSI's in the temp folder.
I think it is the problem with the first update, and probably the second also. Since I haven't installed either of them after my clean uninstall and reinstall, PSP is working just fine.
You need to go into the registry and search for all keys for Corel and Paintshop Pro and delete them. Be sure to backup the registry first. This takes some time since the installation program puts keys all over in the registry. Get rid of any Corel or Paintshop directories also. I use Total Commander to search for names to delete.
