Screen Capture

Post by Ken Veal »

For some reason Paint Shop Pro X has changed regarding screen capture, now, when I go to select an area via a right click it immediately captures the whole screen. This is after going file-import-screen capture-start.I have to get round this by cropping the captured image.

I use PSP9 but...

This sounds like the: Activate capture using is set at: Right mouse click.
This sounds like the: Capture Group Box is set at: Full Screen.

To change your Screen Capture settings click: File > Import > Screen Capture > Setup. Change what you wish... then click OK.

In the capture set up box ,client area is selected.Other options are Area-Full Screen-Window-Object.Should Area be selected to
capture a selected part of the screen ?

It appears that Area may be what you want.
This is what my PSP9 Capture Setup Help says:
-----------------------------
In the Capture group box, select the type of capture:

Area: Captures an area of the screen that you select by clicking once at one corner of the area and clicking again at the opposite corner.

Full screen: Captures the entire computer screen.

Client area: Captures the contents of the active program.

Window: Captures the active window. If a dialog is open, this option captures the dialog. If no dialog is open, this option captures the active application.

Object: Captures an object within a program, such as a menu bar, toolbar, icon, or a document window. When you initiate the capture, you move the cursor over an object and it is highlighted with a rectangle.
------------------------------
You may have to play with your settings until you find what you want.

------------------------------

Personally I don't use PSP's screen-cap any more... mainly because it's such a pain to use. (i.e. launch PSP and keep it running to grab stuff.)

I switched to a freeware hot-key program called PicPick http://www.picpick.org/en/features
You may want to read about it... if you screen-cap a lot.

NOTE: During the PicPick install, click on Custom Installation and, uncheck what you don't want.

Thanks for the info, version x help does not give the details you posted.I have selected Area and that is now doing what I have always been able to do.I dont know why it changed, as far as I know I have not altered anything.I usually use screen capture when PSPro is in use to capture then edit images but I will look at your link. Thanks again for your help.

Thanks for your feedback, Kenneth Veal, I'm glad you were able to find settings that you're used to.

As far as X being changed or different...
Sometimes things are (improved?) from one version to the next. In your case I think the defaults were switched.
You may find other things different as well. (i.e. other defaults changed, features moved to other areas or renamed or ... gasp ... gone entirely.)

-------------------

As far as the PicPick info... I didn't know how much you screen-captured or when. So I added my 2-cents at the bottom. : )
