8mm Cine film coverted to AVI format

Post by jaysto »

Hello,
I have just recieved back a 15min 8mm movie from a film transfer company. They suggested for editing purposes that it has been transfered as a AVI file
Having transfered the AVI file to my Video folder in Windows 7 i have tried to enter the file into Coral Video studio 12 by right clicking on the time line, this will not open the file for me to edit.
The file plays straight from the disc ok on the computer ok but does freezes intermitently. the file size is 3.36Gb
Can anyone help me.
Thank you
Jaysto

OK - you right click on the timeline then ?????

do you select "Import Video" ??

does the browse window open ??

Can you select the video ??

when you select the video and click "open" what happens - do you get an error message or what ?

did they give you any more information about the file type - AVI covers about 800 different varieties of video

Hello Brian,
Thank you for your reply, the video file is now in my video's folder, on going to properties it simply says AVI file.
I right click on the time line and choose insert video, this takes me to the file in my videos, i hightlight the file and choose open,
nothing happens.
Going back to the timeline i try the other 4 choices for inserting again nothing happens.
I hope i have explained correctly.

Hello Brian,
I have copied the disc and started again, hey presto the AVI file has now opened up on the time line and i have begun to edit the movie.
The movie has many joints through out it's length, some are quite messy so i have been trying to cut them out by cutting three or four frames either side of the joint.
At this point i hover the mouse on the yellow portion to delete it i then get either arrows pointing left and right or a cross that looks like a move symbol, clicking on either of these just deletes the whole of the next selection could you explain to me where i am going wrong.
Thank you

pleased to hear you have solved the original problem

when you have cut the video in the timeline click on the bit you want to remove and the yellow lines will appear all around it in the timeline - confirm that the yellow lines are only around the bit you want to remove because sometimes VideoStudio thinks it know better than you and selects the wrong piece. then - press the 'delete' key on your keyboard - the highlighted section will disappear and the rest of the video slides along to fill the gap.

Thank you for that Brian,
I have just seen your post.
I am getting around the problem, but whilst i would like to remove only two or three frames before and after the joint i find that scissors do not allways light up and i have to cut away more than i would like.
Thank you for your help

The scissor tool will only "light up" if the timeline cursor is not at the end of a clip

the two small central arrows under the preview window allow you to advance and reverse one frame at a time to give you precise cutting.

Hello Brian,
Thank you for your reply, sorry for my late reply, I still find that the scissors won't light up unless i move the curser about 10/12 frames beyond the joint either way and with the curser well within the time line working area.
Thank you for your help.

Hi Jack

Nice to see you on the forums, we have just returned from a long cruise (35 days) over the Atlantic to Brazil and up the Amazon, Anyhow hope you and Nadine are keeping well.

OK
Have a read at this web page read this section –third image down
Trimming Tool (Removing frames from the ends of clips)

http://lata.me.uk/corel/bluebar/blue_bar.htm

This will allow you to remove one frame at a time if you wished
Setting the curser position using the digital click is frame accurate
