The 99% freeze

Post by revmatthew »

New issue reared up today.
VS5pro is on this Dell 690 with lots of omph. - see my profile.
I've rendered a music video of about 5 min in length several times. No issues (re-rendered to make editorial changes after boss reviews) Laid down music track MP3), then stills, JPEG, with motion and small video clips AVI & M2T. some transitions, some butt cuts. Titles in some places. But not where the stall is when it crashes.
Now the program has started to stall and then freeze at 99% of the rendering process. Trying to create an ACHD file. Funny thing is, I can play back the video that is produced even when it has stalled, but it stops at a specific point, actually a butt cut between a video Mt2 file and a Jpeg file. To test things out, I tried to render a very small 12 second file, and it did that just fine. I used one of the General Ending pieces that come with the program, HM_General17_End.wmv, and took out it's audio as that was not needed in the project.
I tried reducing the output size, i.e. the resolutions size, down to 1440 x 1080 and then it rendered.
Now, why am I telling you this?
Because it seems that the larger rendering crashes VS5. I'd sometime like a higher resolution. Is it my machine do ya suppose, or the fact in Canada today, its warmer than it should be? any ideas would be appreciated.
have a good one.

Have you tested with just the m2t file, the jpeg and the butt cut?
What are you actual output settings?

BTW, what is a "butt cut"?

I too have no idea what you mean by a butt cut ... and Google is not much help either.

I am thinking, however, that it could be just a plain cut to end one clip and another starting straight after, but with no transition over the cut. If that is what it is, what happens if you put a quick transition over the cut?

Sorry, old term. I began editing when we used tape (70's) Those were the days when we actually physically cut audio and video (but don't tell my supervisor at CBC - he got upset easy)
Butt cut is indeed where two bits, be they video clip or jpg come together with nothing in between. Probably there is a new term for it.
I was outputting to what the program calls an AVCHD file at 1440 x 1080. that one nearly worked. Just got a bit of buzz audio noise at that "joint" between the two clips. That was interesting. so, I've just dropped a 1/2 sec crossfade transition in the spot between the m2t and the jpg and we'll see what transpires.
Thanks for the ideas.
I'll post when it's done,or when I get back into the office tomorrow.
peace y'all

Yeah, well.
did all the stuff I mentioned in the last post.
froze again at 99%
I turned off the "Perform non-square pixel rendering" didnt' help. NowI'll turn off smart renderer and see what happens.

Turning off the smart rendering and the pixel thing did the trick. Rendered in less time and came out looking pretty decent.
I suspect now, that I had corrupted the 12 sec clip. so I will dissect it to see what happened.
Just for fun I put the smart rendering thing and pixel correction back on... same result. That narrows it down.
