Missing VSP Templates ?

Post by loftladderman »

Forgive me if this has been covered before here, but I have looked and given up :-)
I had Videostudio Pro X5 and wqs delighted with it.
I wanted the extras, included in the "Ultimate" version, which I purchased, & installed on Sunday.
Since then I have misslaid all my VSP Templates ?
I have an empty space where they should be on the Corel page on my PC and in Video Studio too.
There is no human way to email Corel UK directly, and I only went around in circles trying. It is an amazing system to stop you, from bothering them with questions.
I then telephoned this morning.
I was hung out to dry, listening to a voice telling me how busy they were !
I timed this excursion into the the cyber space which Corel appears to occupy.
1 Hour and 22 minutes !
Amazing, but as it was an 0800 number and they were paying for it, why should I worry :-)

In short, does anyone know where my VSP Templates have wandered off to please, and how do I retrieve them ?
I do not use them often, but I do use them on occasions.
Please do not suggest I again try to reach anyone at Corel. I would find watching the grass grow more enjoyable, with a positive result when it happened :-)
Regards from RPM.

All of the bits and pieces used in the VSP files are here on my PC :--

C:\Program Files (x86)\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Ultimate X5\EditingStyle\Style

see if you have anything there first - if you don't have Program files (X86) look in Program files instead.

Do you mean the Instant Project templates? If so, then on my Win 7 set-up, they are located in Documents\Video Studio Pro\VSP Templates. Each instant project has its own sub-folder e.g. Flying Frames, Album etc.

I feel it a bit silly that they are in the Documents library and not the video library, but that is where Corel installs them when you download from the Do More page. My own project are in Documents\Video Studio Pro\My Projects.

Thank you Ken and Brian for your replies.
This is much more than I can realise, from Corel.
The files / templates are just not there.
Not in any area at all.
I even downloaded some do More Files, and they all look like they are being stored in the Video file but nothing is there after they have downloaded.

I wondered if a re installation was feasable ?
Would I have to delete all the Ultimate version I installed on Sunday before trying again ?
Or just load it all up again, and hope it will be there ?
I hate computers.
Over to you Gentlemen.

Grasping at straws a bit - have you installed service pack 1 available here :--
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=4700015

failing that a re-install does seem a possibility but there is no point just doing an install over a previous version , you need to completely uninstall first - there is a quite laborious manual procedure in the Corel knowledgebase which involves deleting parts in the registry which a windows uninstall leaves behind, but a couple of users have mentioned an un-install tool which they downloaded and used with success, user alfons mentions it here :-

Thank you for your reply Brian.
I tried the Service pack again, but I received the same reply after it had apparently loaded, saying: The installed version of the application Corel Pro X5 could not be determined.
The setup Corel Vidiostudio Pro X5 Service Pack 1 setup will now terminate.

I did a complete re-install, using the method as listed in the Corel knowledgebase, and even before I had added the 2nd disc of goodies (The Ultimate Part) there was nothing in the VSP Templates area. It said Beginning / Middle / end etc but there was nothing in any of the partitions at all.
I pushed on and loaded the Ultimate (Extras) disc, but it made no difference.

So I saved one of my own videos as a VSP Template, and THAT worked.
It is there, & I can use it, so I can only assume I have a faulty disc, or even both.
As it is not even a week old, and was purchased from PC World. So I shall return it this weekend and give up completely.
I would have a replacement, but after my experience with trying to talk to Corel UK Tech Dept, I shall not be using anything they produce again. This includes my Corel Draw etc etc.
Photoshop here I come :-)
Life should not be this difficult.

Thank you both, Brian and Ken, for you assistance in this matter.
Perhaps Corel should pay you !
No one can speak to them, and I find that shocking in this day and age, in the electronic world we now inhhabit.
