should I always use the "Apply anti-flicker filter"

Post by Haskey »

Just read another post where they recommended using the "Apply anti-flicker filter" feature.

This is something that I always apply, but I don't really know why. I'm guessing it prevents flickering. But if this is always a good feature to apply then why is it not on by default.

I guess what I'm asking is... Are there any negative results to using the "Apply anti-flicker filter" feature. Does it effect performance? Are they times when I shouldn't use it?

Thanks in advance,

Steve

Do a search in this forum for "anti-flicker" and you can read up on it.

Here's a recent thread suggesting the filter's use when playback is on a television . . .

Good luck,

The antiflicker filter is only applied to still images and titles. There is no point in applying it when using movies as the only assets in your project. The antiflicker filter adjusts colors to avoid flicker on interlaced displays.

Thanks for your replies. I'm still not hearing any negative reasons for having the filter turned on. I can see why there's no point in certain circumstances but are there any negative results to applying it if I don't need it.

Should I always apply it, "Just in case"?

Does this idea apply even when you do a pan and zoom (maybe especially with pan and zoom)?

I have a large (8500x3900), digital color map that I do a 40 second pan and zoom on, and things like railroad tracks and fence lines seem to wave like they're in the wind when I play it back. I see this waving effect on both the computer monitor and the TV screen when output to DVD, more obvious on the DVD.

Is this the color problem that anti-flicker is supposed to fix?

Are we supposed to use anti-flicker whenever we use any titles??
