The burner is busy for another application

Post by MartinH »

Hi, I am having a few teething troubles with X5. When I go to burn a disc I get "The burner is busy for another application". If I restart the computer it works fine, but it is annoying having to do that. Videostudio 11 didn't do that. Thanks, Martin.

do you have any other programmes that use the burner - like Roxio for instance which has a habit of grabbing the burner and refusing to let any other programme use it. It is not necessary to actually use the programme for it to grab the burner.

Brian, Roxio has not done this since version 8 or so when it still used to use Drag&Drop burn. The later versions have dropped that feature.
Of course if the user has still that version (or some other similar program) on his system he could get that message.

Nero's InCD was also a culprit in this regard, though after Nero 6 you had to consciously install it as it was not installed automatically as part of the overall program. Windows itself also has a drag and drop record facility though it does not, to my knowledge, grab the burner and refuse access to it to other programs.

Hi, I don't have Roxio, I saw that mentioned in another thread but I don't believe it applies to me, I guess I have other programmes but I don't use them, I always use videostudio for burning, 11 plus until recently (no problems) now X5!

I just found this thread and have this same problem. It just started happening last month, after weeks of using this version 6 hours a day without problems. It still happens even when I an additional external burner. AND... I took this opportunity to do some much needed maintenance and completely erased, reformatted and renewed the hard drive, reload windows vista, 32bit and all the Windows updates, then load version PRO5 and it's update. With only the minimal programs loaded, the same problem exists! I still get the 'burner busy' routine with both internal and external burners tried. Very, very frustrating and quite a waste of time rebooting with each attempt to burn a dvd. Are there any other comments on this issue that might help resolve it?

update, the burner has been working fine lately though I haven't been doing a lot of burning, all that has changed is I upgraded the graphics card driver, hopefully that is the solution

No solutions in this forum for me. So instead of wasting time trying to burn discs with the program, I simply make ISO files and then burn the disc from the iso files using another program. No time lost and it makes a fine backup file with a small footprint as well.
