Re: Support for Sony A99
As far as I can tell from the posts I have read and the lack of response from Corel, NO new cameras will be supported.
Not, now, not EVER.
No new cameras have been added since the mid-2012 when Corel got rid of the Bibble development team they 'acquired' in early 2012. So Corel bought Bibble, sell Bibble/ASP software, but don't support it. No one can reasonably be expected to pay for camera software that doesn't support cameras from the major manufacturers.
So it looks like AfterShotPro is dead.
And this really chaps my behind because I bought AfterShot Pro last month and I borrowed a camera and shot RAW files with a camera that will likely never be supported. P.S. Is anyone contemplating a class action suit against Corel?
Updated 22feb 2013: Because Corel does not currently support cameras released after early 2012, I requested and received a full refund for my purchase of ASP, even though I had the software for more than 30 days.

Re: Support for Sony A99
They never did come up with a lens distortion update for the Sony A77 kit lens 16-50 f2.8 so I figure they have abandoned this software. Kind of weird to buy out Bibble and then kill it but that's what they have done.

No, but Corel maintains a presence on Twitter and Facebook a much more public Forum for voicing your issues than this one.BBlackwelder wrote:<snip.

So, you have been unhappy with AfterShot from day one and still bought it, which of course begs the question about the sanity of that act.KeithR wrote:Seriously, that's no loss.BBlackwelder wrote: So it looks like AfterShotPro is dead.
You know it is a doomed product.
And still you use every chance to *** an moan in a user forum about it which wastes other peoples time.
Go do something productive instead.
I strongly suggest seeking professional help. Getting eaten up by frustrations from the inside will get you ulcers or worse.
cheers

Nevermind. I am no longer going to wait for Corel to come up with too little too late.
I am evaluating Capture One and actually like it a lot. Processes A99 RAW files without problems.

What can I say? It was cheap, and I'm an eternal optimist. Never said I was sane...afx wrote: So, you have been unhappy with AfterShot from day one and still bought it, which of course begs the question about the sanity of that act.
Got to say though, that I think it's hysterically funny that you're now getting something of a taste of the frustration, anger, disillusionment and disappointment in ASP that I've had from Bibble (and now ASP) for years.
Stinks, doesn't it?
How's Capture One 7 Pro working out for you? Even you have to agree that in terms of pure IQ it's night-and-day better than ASP - and especially in regard to the stuff in my signature...
So you're now exactly where I am. It just took you longer to get here.

You might want to try Photo Ninja. I liked it so much I bought a serial and since I already had a noise ninja license, it was just 79 bucks. And they actually do update it. I think it supports the A99. It sure supports the A77 and just about any lens too.

Re: Support for Sony A99
I just bought ASP a couple of days ago only now to find out from this thread that it is dead and won't support my future cameras. This is terrible. I know it had it's flaws, but it was a good product.
It wouldn't even take that much investment from corel to at least update RAW file support even if they did nothing else. It's the least they can do if they're still accepting people's money for the product.
I feel stupid now because I've been telling all my friends at the local photography group how great it is. I even went to the effort of making a youtube video which essentially promoted it.
I'm very disappointed. This sort of behavior by big companies is so wrong. Doesn't seem like there are any truly good software companies of any large size left in the world.
When I get my blog sorted, I will have to do an autopsy on this product and blog about it. Not as a way to vent my frustrations, but simply because the software was special in many ways, and it deserves to have it's story told.

The jury has long been out on that, Terence: there is a long line of Canon users, going well back into Bibble days, that have had - and continue to have - major issues with the IQ of conversions of Canon files.Terence wrote: I know it had it's flaws, but it was a good product.
The stuff in my signature isn't made up or imagined.

It's still a good bit of software if it meets your current needs.Terence wrote:I just bought ASP a couple of days ago only now to find out from this thread that it is dead and won't support my future cameras. This is terrible. I know it had it's flaws, but it was a good product.

BUT
There is a 30 Day Money back guarantee on your purchase if you bought it from the Corel website.
Ask for your money back and tell them why!

Re: Support for Sony A99
Well because I was a Bibble 5 owner, the upgrade only cost me $49 so I can't complain too much about the personal cost, but I can't in good conscience recommend it to my friends (I was gonna do a series of tutorial videos too). I just think it's a shame that I won't be able to use it on any new cameras I might buy - not too much to ask.
I notice the noise reduction is dreadful and noise ninja is woeful, but I don't mind making the tradeoff on some flaws. With Bibble 5 I installed pixie but that doesn't seem to be available for ASP. I tried Wavelet denoise and increasing the color threshold seems to help a lot with my CR2s, but it's not as good as LR when combined with sharpening.
Lightroom noise reduction seems hard to beat :/

Agreed - although I'm warming more and more to DxO Optics Pro 8's noise handling.Terence wrote:Lightroom noise reduction seems hard to beat :/
Excellent "out of the box" image quality too, and although highlight recovery isn't up to Lr standards, it's very "graceful" and aesthetically satisfying in how it handles highlights.

Re: Support for Sony A99
Yeah the highlights in ASP are killing me. I do a lot of high-key exposures in-camera for my weddings. This one alone is killing ASPs viability for me.
