Corel VSP 5 Crashing on startup

Post by aj327 »

I bought this back in June of 2012 so I'm out of the warranty phase I guess...so I hoping someone on here might be able to steer me in the right direction. I have a paid, registered version first of all - and it used to work fine. I haven't used it in several months however and the other day when I tried loading it, it just crashed on startup. I basically get the Corel Logo flashing up on my screen followed by the generic windows message that corel has stopped working. I also cut and pasted the problem details below.

I'm running windows 7 professional (x64) on a homebuilt PC. I have a 3.33 GHz intel core i7 980, an ASUS P6X58D-E board, 24 GB of RAM, and dual NVIDIA GeForce GTX 470 video cards.

I tried uninstalling it and reinstalling twice - once from the install package I already had on my computer, and the second time from a freshly downloaded and up to date version. Because it's been so long since I've used it I have no idea how many new pieces of software I've put on here since it worked correctly...and don't know how many times I've updated windows. Windows is up to date however and I have the latest Corel package.

Corel VideoStudio Pro has stopped working
Windows can check online for a solution to the problem

Sorry but the forums have been offline for most of the day due to some problem on the server.

the only help I can suggest is that you do not appear to have service pack 1 installed - the release data doesn't specifically mention your problem but it may eliminate one more possibility.

you can download the patch here :- http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=4700015

Thanks. I tried that and it didn't work. I did however get the following new message:

The program has encountered an unspecified error and has stopped functioning.
Please contact Corel Technical Support and send the dump file for analysis.

C:\Users\Aeneas\AppData\Local\Temp\vstudio_15.1.0.34_20130127_124503.DMP

I imagine I'm pretty screwed huh?

the only other option I have is a complete manual uninstall - this is because the normal Windows uninstall leaves bits behind - then a clean re-install.

the manual instructions can be found here :- http://tinyurl.com/a9db4az

I used Revo Uninstaller pro and uninstalled ALL my corel products and then just reinstalled corel VSP 5. Same thing happened. Couldn't get past the splash page.

You could also try creating a new user profile in Windows, with Admin privileges. Then try installing X5 under that profile. If it works, you can then delete the new user profile and VS should continue to work...

I have the same issue following an upgrade to Windows 8. Are there any ideas out there?

Thanks
