Resize PSPx5

Post by nejanet »

I know I don't know as much about this program as I should I have used it forever for my photos. I use my own photo file system and not any program.
I just got my computer back after getting a bad rootkit virus. Starting over from scratch, while now everything is fast and clean now my x5 isn't set like I it was before.
Here is how I resize my photos and while I know it isn't the "right" way it works for me so I would like to have it back the way it was a month ago...
I don't remember what the default resolution was I was using I never touch that. I go into Pixel Demensions and when I changed the width the height would change accordingly I would click ok and my picture would get smaller on the screen I would save as and open the next photo.

Now the resolution is set to 72.000
And when I type in the width I want the height changes to the same number , here are the other settings in the resize.
Checked are Resample -Bicubic
Locked aspect ratio
and Resize all layers.
Could you tell me what I would have to do to get my old way back?
I am sure it is a setting....but right now when I try to resize I get a photo the size of a house.
Then I promise that I will work with it more. Since I have been using a version of PSP since Jasc...
Thank you so much.

Where you enter the new pixel dimensions, is the drop down thing to the right set to pixels or percent? If you want to enter pixel dimensions and it's set to percent the new size will be 'the size of a house'.
By the way, the 'lock aspect ratio' checked means you only have to enter a new width or height and PSP calculates the other for you.

Thank you for answering
I have always had it set to percent and right or wrong I would use the calculator and divide the width by, maybe 5 and I would enter that number and the height would be shorter so it would enter a smaller number. So my pictures look good in email and the internet. I don't print photos.
But now when I did that say I came up with a number of 648 when I typed it in it would turn pink. But the height would also turn to 648 and to me that makes a square.
I do have the keep aspect ratio checked.
I used to be able to do 30 pictures and get them saved as jpgs in less than a half hour. Now I can't get one done all day.

The reason PSP enters 648 in both fields in your example, is because you have the aspect ratio locked and the drop down says Percent. To keep the aspect ratio, both dimensions must be changed by the same percentage.

Change the drop down to Pixels. That way, if you divide the original by 5 and enter one dimension, it will change the other dimension in pixels. Either that, or keep it Percent, and enter 20, as 20 percent is like dividing by 5. In that case again, both fields will show 20 if aspect ratio is locked.

The field turns pink if the resulting size or percent is beyond what PSP will allow.

I hope it helps/works for you. Forgive my English, today is not my day :)
