Moviefactory and Windows 7

Post by mikeb »

I use Moviefactory 4 with XP and have now upgraded to WIndows 7. I have tried Movifactory 4 and there are various problems, looking at the forum it came out long before Windows 7. I have contacted Corel UK to buy the latest version and was told they no longer produce it in Europe. I asked if I purchased version 7 from the USA would it work with Windows 7 and was told that it was not compatable. I asked what they suggested I use and they said Videostudio X5. I already have this but the various layouts that come with it dont seem to be as varied as Moviefactory. Any suggestions or do I have to make the best of using X5. If I use X5 can I add extra menus etc.

It's nonsense that MF 7 is not compatible with Win 7. I have both MF 7 Pro and the cut-down MF 7 SE on Win 7 computers, and they all work just fine.

Yes, you will be given the option early in the installation process of choosing either the TV system (NTSC or PAL) or simply specifying your country, when the TV system will be automatically chosen. (Personally, I first specify PAL and then choose New Zealand, just to be sure!! )

As for why it is no longer available in the UK, MF 7 has a very chequered history, and I don't know anything about its future. Originally, though, when it first came out several years ago now, Corel had decided to ditch the program altogether -- as they did some other Ulead and InterVideo products when they took over those companies. In the event, MF 7 was only made available originally in Asia and the Pacific and a couple of other areas, but the really big markets of Europe and North America were left out. Why, I have no idea!

But when VS X3 came out, Corel had made the huge mistake of completely changing the burning module in it to a new and utterly hopeless one. They then had to quickly convert MF 7 Pro into a limited SE version and issue it free to all registered X3 users. At that point (I think it was) they expanded the original sales options for the MF 7 Pro version to include North America, though I simply can't remember what happened about Europe and the UK. Maybe someone else can fill in the blanks.

But there has been no new version or update patches for MF 7 Pro for several years, and I suspect a cloud still hangs over its future with Corel. At the very least, I am not aware of any development of a new version to replace it...
