Problems Video Studio Neither X5 or X4

Post by alfons »

Some days ago I had problems installing the new X5.
I contacted technical service and they sent me the cd. because I tried to install it from the file I downloaded.
When I tried to install the programe it told me that another version was installed and that I had to uninstall it.
Ok. I did. I uninstall version X4. (I think it was a mistake)
Then I tried to install X5 again and it doesn't work either.
Then I tried to reinstall X4 and it didn`t install either!
Both programmes I have are legal...i bought them!
I'm really desperate.
Now I have none of them and I contacted technical service and they told me to llok for the answer in their web!
There's nothing about this there!
Is there a reliable phone number to speak to someone directly?
Uffffffff
I'm really anoyed.
Can any one hel me? Please!

Ummm... and we are supposed to guess everything else? Have you previously installed either X4 or X5? Did you use a disc version or was it a download version? If the latter, have you tried downloading a new version in case the setup.xml file actually *has* been corrupted? Have you tried cleaning out the Temp folder and then tried reinstalling? Sometimes temp files created during a previous installation can conflict with newly created temp files...

EDIT: OK -- I now see you have another thread on the same subject which answers some of my questions, so I am going to merge this thread with that one to avoid confusion...

Thanks Ken.
I have manage to uninstall and remove all traces of X4 with VSX4_cleanup
I have installed X4 and it works again.
When I try ti install X5 it tells me that another version is installed and tells me to remove it a reinstall X5.
I have done that before and I had problems with both.
Any suggestions?

Well, it shouldn't tell you to uninstall X4. I have X4 and X5 on this computer, and X2, X3, X4 and X5 on another computer, and all versions work well and totally separately from each other. If it is telling you to uninstall something, it is supposed to be an earlier installation of the same version. Since you had already attempted an install of X5, I suspect that what it is really telling you is to uninstall that, and not X4... But if you have X4 working again, definitely don't uninstall it.

If you manage to get rid of all traces of X5 from your system, one other thing you could try would be to create a new user profile in Windows, with Admin privileges. Then log on to that new profile, and try to install X5. If that works, then you can delete the new user profile and X5 should continue to work.

There is a procedure here to completely remove X5 :- http://tinyurl.com/bkhfhcn

when the install tells you it has found a previous version it means it has found remnants of X5 - it is NOT telling you to remove X4 - like Ken I have several previous versions of VideoStudio on my computer

I have done what Brian says about cleaning the registry.
Some of the lines to be deleted in the registry didn't exist, some did and I deleted them.
In Corel folder (program files) there wasn't any folder created for Corel Video Studio X5, so nothing to be deleted.
Deleted the one in the Ulead folder....C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\15.0
Clean all temporary files etc.
Restarted computer.....
Tried to reinstall X5 and.....
It keeps telling me that there's another version of this product and can't continue...says I must uninstall the existing version!
Why? I can't delete anything.
What I have seen is that in the C:\Users\[YOUR USERNAME]\AppData\Roaming\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro/ there are two folders 14.0 and 14.0-1...is it correct?
I think I'll try to get the money back from Corel and keep working with X4.
Is it possible?
I'm desperate!

Hello Ken.
Yes I have tried it but it doesn't work. It's strange.
This morning, here in Catalunya, I have tried again to install X5 and I get the same message about having the programme installed already.
Thanks for your help.
If you come accross any other idea o suggestion it will be very welcome!

Hi. I have tried again and literaly it tells me...
It all seems to go ok until it stops and shows this.

There's another version of this product installed. The instalation of this version can't continue. To configurate o uninstall the existing version of this product, use add or remove progarmmes from the panel control.

This is a bad translation but I think you'lll have some idea.
Thanks again.

Normally, when the install program says you have to uninstall the other version, if you say yes, it will only uninstall that same version i.e. if you are trying to install X5 and it gives that message, it will only install any earlier installation of X5 and will not affect X4. So have you actually said OK or have you manually uninstalled X4? What happens if you say OK and let it uninstall the version it says is already installed???

Well I think I'll give up.
Same message everytime I try to install X5.
There's another version of this product installed. The instalation of this version can't continue. To configurate o uninstall the existing version of this product, use add or remove progarmmes from the panel control.
In the grey square of the installation doesn't give me any chance to uninstall the other, only says "finish" in the icon at the righ bottom.
I look in "programme files" "corel" but there isn't any folder of X5.
I go to uninstall programmes of Windows X5 is not listed there. (X4 yes.)
You and Brian mention a few things do but unfortunatelly neither way worked.
I had some problems to reinstall X4 the other day when I uninstalled.
Now X4 works fine and I will leave it, at least I can work with this version.
To mention again, when I paid for the update I downloaded the programme, tried to install it and stop every time tellig me that vspro.msi was missin. I sent a message to Corel and they sent me a CD. I have tried a few times to install from cd but no work.
I wonder if Corel has a programe like VSX4_cleanup....for X5 (VSX5_cleanup.
When I uninstall X4 to try install X5, I had to use (VSX4_cleanup in orther to reinstall X4.
Probably a bit confuse all this.
I'm a pensioner and I do some jobs for two Old People Homes filming and editing all the events and cellebrations they do along the year. I'll keep working with X4.
Just to mention that I have to computers. yesterday evening I installed X5 on the old computer (Windows XP) and no problem! I don't like to work with the old one because it goes very..very...slowww....
The one I have X4 installed and I try to install X5 is a Medion Pentium Dual Core CPU ES800 @ 3.20Ghz 3203 Mhz 4GB RAM Windows 7 Home Premium.
Will Corel give a refund of what I have paid?
Thanks to you all.
