As imac has already said, we need heaps more information. In particular, are you capturing from a digital camcorder or an analogue one? If so, how are you doing it -- Firewire cord for digital or what capture device for analogue? What are your computer specifications, including operating system and type of burner? When you say produced a trial video in AVI format, how did you do it and what did you burn it to? Did you (as I suspect you might have) simply produce your trial AVI and then export it back to your camera and hook that to your TV? What do you do when you try to produce either a DV or MPEG trial video? Can we assume you have a full version of VS9? If so, what is the exact error message you get?

Have you read the top sticky post on this Board which sets out pretty clearly the recommended procedure, particularly for beginners like yourself? Are you aware, for instance, that you should (1) capture in DV/AVI format, (2) do any editing you want in that format, and (3) then produce a DVD- (or VCD/SVCD-) compatible mpeg file using Share > Create Video File > DVD/VCD/SVCD. And (4) then burn your 'trial video' (I would recommend on a rewritable RW disc so you do not waste anything) using Share > Create Disc.
