Ran into another problem. When in clip mode, to cut the clip up into parts I want, the clip won't run. If I put it in project mode it will run but I can't cut it up as it cuts everything else up with it. So what did I do wrong?

Is this just one clip - or a selection - have you used this clip before.
Can you tell us a bit more about the problem clip(s) - with the clip in your timeline please RIGHT click over it and from the pop-out choose 'properties' - make a copy of them and post them on here please.
will the clip display properly if you manually slide the timeline cursor along it - that is - move your mouse cursor up into the area immediately above the videotrack where the timecode numbers are - the cursor will change to a little computer mouse - left click and while holding down the left key slide your mouse left and right - does the preview screen show what is happening.
I actually prefer to edit that way - move the cursor along and then use the scissors tool to cut.

Don't know if this info would be of any use or not. Before, I prepared every project from scratch. However. before the previous project I saved the Title, captions and .wav files separately and starting with the previous project I just drag what I need into Storyboard along with the clips. I change some text but, that's all, because, my videos are of the same thing (trains) and only need a date changed and a few other changes throughout.

This is the best I could do. Could find any way to copy it so I took a photo of it. It started with my last project which, was on Monday (different clip-new). That one would run intermittently as I was working with it. This new clip has never run in "clip" mode. I tried cutting it in "project" mode but it would cut the captions also if they happened to fall where I wanted it cut.
When I hit the play button the audio part of the clip plays but the screen image only changes when I pause it. Then it jumps to where its paused and repeats the same action the length of the clip if I keep pausing it. It also jumps to the end when the audio stops

Yes, the clip will display properly but, only because, when I left click in the time code area the mode instantly changes from "clip" to "project".

That is what I do also but, its in "clip" mode. Also, in this mode, when I set my end clip marker, my scissors go dim and unavailable so, I have to hit the "back by frame" button to get scissors activated. I believed that I had to be in "clip" mode in order to edit a clip since that is what becomes active when I want to work on it when I click on it.

Sorry Carroll I do not have an answer for why your video will not play in clip mode - perhaps someone else knows.
but can you not play in project mode - or manually move the timeline (not trim bar) cursor to the place you want to cut the clip - then click on the clip which will change you to clip mode and cut the clip with the scissors and delete the unwanted bits - then continue in project mode to the next edit point.

Re: VSP4 Clip won't run in clip mode but will in project mod
I started a new project with another clip last evening but again only the sound played in clip mode. I then started another new project but, I did not drag any of the titles or captions into the time line, just the clip, and I cut it up in project mode successfully and got rid of the unwanted. Then drug the titles, etc to the time line.BrianCee wrote:Sorry Carroll I do not have an answer for why your video will not play in clip mode - perhaps someone else knows.

Today after reading your note of using project mode to advance the clip to where I wanted it cut then, change to clip mode and hit the scissors, worked. I had also dragged all the titles etc in place and unlike doing the cutting in project mode before, with all them in place, it did not affect them.
I was fixated (blinders on) on trying to figure out why the clip wouldn't play and when I used project mode it cut everything so, I never considered doing what you suggested. Probably because I can't seem to get a handle on VS no matter how many times I read the manual. I'm not comfortable with it either. There just seems to be something awkward or missing or wrong with it. Very hard to explain a feeling.
Anyway Brian, thank you for your help. It is appreciated.
