raw file (.orf) support for Olympus E-PM2 PEN Mini

Post by AnandaSim »

The Olympus PEN Mini (E-PM2) is the littlest brother of the OM-D.
Aftershot Pro 1.1.30 says it supports OM-D raw files and the E-PM2 uses the same sensor, just has different camera id text in the EXIF.
I find that AFP does not want to list the .ORF files (it will list .ORF files from older cameras) and will not open the E-PM2 .ORF files.

I just used EXIFTool to replace the word E-PM2 with the word E-M5 and Aftershot Pro loads the .ORF file.

Can Corel please resolve this - it's not heavy programming, just add the camera name text to the "supported" list in the software. Please.

I agree with AnandaSim, it is very little work but would be great to have Olympus PM2 and PL5 working!! PLEASE do it fast, I chose Aftershot because of Linux support and fastness of the program and really like it, thanks.

I read your comment on Corel Aftershot Pro and the E-PM2. I tried to rename the camera model with exiftool to E-M5. But it does not work for me to use it afterwards with Aftershot. Could you do me the favor and post the comand you used for doing it successfully, please?

E-PM1 is Generation 3 camera of the same Panasonic sensor as E-P3, E-PL3 and produced in 2011.

The OM-D, E-PL5, E-PM2 are new generation using the Sony sensor, produced in 2012. Their raw is completely different, unfortunately.

What is interesting is the PSP X5 's Raw importer recognises the new generation sensor raw but not AFP 1.1.0.30.

Thanks for your interest :)

Firstly, did the EXIF change after you updated the file?
Did by any chance, you added a space or something - the id is E-M5

I am running Windows and AFP 1.1.0.30 - have you updated your AFP because before that version, it does not recognise E-M5

I used EXIFGui which is a visual wrapper over the command line EXIFTool. I can highlight hundreds of files with the mouse, type in the ID and hit Save. It is slow but it goes through every file. Of course take precautions and make a backup of your original files before you test.

Hope this is helpful.

You may be missing the point. :(
Corel do not respond to posts on this Forum and it is rumoured do not monitor it for customers observations either.
The recent Update was the same as the Beta version issued in mid 2012, based on the work of the previous developers of Bibble/ASP now sacked by Corel.
This product is effectively DEAD. (Unless they prove me wrong very soon  )
Which they eventually did! :)

And it's a Corel branded forum? How strange.

I haven't been peering into the ins and outs of Bibble/ASP/Corel. I just use the product. Thanks for the background info.

Pity if it's dead. Maybe it's outsourced to India.

I love the difference between this UI vs Lightroom
I love how the initial default image looks a lot better than Lightroom.
I guess we'll have to wait and see.
In the meantime, I'll have to EXIF change the .ORF files.

Thanks for the info. :)

This command line will do the job:

exiftool -model=E-M5 yourfilenamehere.ORF

Anybody knows a similar trick to work with XZ-10 RAW files in ASP2? I have one and it's not on the list of supported cameras (nor is the XZ-2 by the way). I would also be happy if a good converter existed from ORF to DNG, that would be another way to work around the problem. However, I'm on Linux not Mac/Windows.
